RINGMER FOOTBALL CLUB LTD 1st X1 Division One Match Report Three Bridges 3 Ringmer 1 02/10/07 Report by David Ruffles
In a game of fast and open football Ringmer were on top for the first thirty minutes. An early midfield error left Marc Whiteman clear of the bridges defence and he was unlucky not to score as his powerful strike rebounded off the goalkeeper’s feet and onto the cross bar for a corner. Then Aaron MacMillan, an early replacement for Miles Scerri cut in from the left and beat the keeper before crossing for Mark Price to turn the ball towards the goal-line where a defender was adjudged to have handled the ball. Marc Whiteman slotted home from the resulting spot kick to give the Blues the lead after eleven minutes.
In a rare attack for Bridges, Warren Whitely beat Joe Adams to a long through ball and drove the ball into the empty net as Ringmer’s defenders tried in vain to get behind their goalkeeper. Chances now came and went at both ends. Adams had to use his feet to deny Greg Palmer. Then a long clearance from Adams was trapped by Whiteman in the opposing penalty area and Stuart Robinson was forced to use his feet to keep out his shot on the turn. Andy Hart won a corner after a long run down the right wind which began deep in the Blues half. Jack Johnson laid his corner back for Dan Evans to put his right foot shot inches wide. Jack McNab’s neat chip over the advancing Adams went just over the Ringmer crossbar. Then a cross from Liam Aherne was punched away by Adams but only as far as Hassan Nyang who fired the ball into the net to give the home side the lead on the stroke of half time.
The opening moments of the second half set the tone for the rest of the game as the home side laid siege to the Ringmer goal. First Adams did well to turn a close range header onto the bar and then a powerful strike from Nyang cannoned off the post with Adams beaten. With Ringmer completely losing their shape a third goal from Bridges seemed inevitable and it duly came with some fifteen minutes remaining when a cross from Brendan Sebuliba was met by a flying header from Markel Greenidge.
