RINGMER FOOTBALL CLUB LTD 1st X1 Friendly Match Report Ringmer 4 Chipstead 3 04/08/07 Report by David Ruffles
The Caburn is rapidly gaining the reputation as the place to come to see goals (twenty-three in four friendlies) while everyone is encouraged to arrive early as for the fourth match in a row a goal was scored in the opening five minutes.
This time it was Miles Scerri who gave Ringmer an early lead. Scerri also played a part in the second goal when he won a race to a loose ball with the visiting keeper. The ball rebounded off the keeper and into the path of Nick Braden who curled the ball just inside the near post. Then a neat move involving Barden and Evans down the left flank set up Marc Whiteman to slide the ball into the net to give the Blues a 3-0 lead in the fifteenth minute. Chipstead soon pulled a goal back with a snap shot from midfield following a poor clearance from Barden. The play then became much more even with chances at both ends before Chipstead pulled another goal back just before half-time.
A far post header from a corner in the first minute of the second half levelled the scores and this heralded a period when Chipstead were well on top and looking likely to take the lead while Ringmer’s midfield was totally over-run. Matt May reacted well to tip a close range header over the crossbar. At the other end Scerri created an opening for Whiteman whose shot required the visitor’s goalkeeper to be at full stretch to keep the ball out of the net. Then a low cross from the left found Aaron MacMillan and his far post header put Ringmer back in charge with some twenty five minutes remaining. Finally Ringmer discovered the art of defending from the front and an excellent team performance ended in a well deserved victory.
