RINGMER FOOTBALL CLUB LTD 1st X1 Division One Match Report Ringmer 0 Crowborough 3 21/08/07 Report by David Ruffles
Ringmer lost for the first time this season to title favourites Crowborough after Ross Treleaven gave the Crows the lead in the third minute. Ringmer’s defence failed to clear a loose ball in their penalty area and when the ball rebounded over a defender’s back Treleaven was on hand to put the ball into the net. Both teams were intent on playing a passing game and although Crowborough looked the more dangerous in the final third of the pitch most shots were off target. Indeed the only save of note in the first half came after thirty five minutes when Miles Scerri’s first time strike forced Mark Oldroyd to save down by his post.
However the start of the second half saw both keepers in action with flying saves from Joe Adams to deny John Sinclair and Andy Ducille while Oldroyd had his hands warmed by a shot from thirty yards by Luke Gedling. Then disaster struck for the Blues when the Crows scored twice in as many minutes. The first came when a cross from Wayne Clarke deflected off a defender to present Sinclair with a simple header then Chris Dicker’s cross from deep on the left flew across the face of the goal with Treleaven rushing in from the right on hand to slide the ball home at the far post. With some fifteen minutes remaining Ryan MacMillan was pushed forward as an extra striker but to no avail.
