RINGMER FOOTBALL CLUB LTD 1st X1 FA CUP Match Report Farnham Town 1 Ringmer 4 FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round 18/08/07 Report by David Ruffles
This was a very enjoyable contest played in the right spirit with both sides intent on playing football despite the increasingly damp conditions and the result was in doubt until the end.
From the start it was obvious both teams were intent on playing a good passing game as they sought to take the early initiative. In the end it was Ringmer who drew first blood after eighteen minutes when a neat passing movement down the left flank ended with a cross from Aaron MacMillan. The home side could only clear the ball straight into the path of Jack Johnson who showed no hesitation as he planted the ball into the top corner of the net. The lead was short lived, however, as Town equalised some six minutes later with a low shot from Woody Cardona found the bottom corner of the net beyond the reach of Joe Adams.
Ringmer had looked more threatening in the final third of the pitch during the first half but after half time it was the home side that were the more dangerous in the early stages. Three substitutions around the hour mark swung the game back in favour of the Blues. The effervescent Mark Price was causing panic in the Farnham defence but it was Luke Gedling who restored Ringmer’s lead within some fifteen minutes left to play as he cut into the box from the right to score following a measured pass from Johnson. Then in the dying moments an excellent cross from Glen Matten was headed passed the goalkeeper by Miles Scerri from near the penalty spot. Finally Price got just reward for his efforts as he cut in from the left before unleashing a powerful shot into the back of the net to put the result beyond doubt.
