Ringmer returned to winning ways on Saturday with a comfortable victory over 6th placed Hassocks – a result that lifts the Blues into 9th spot in the table.

 

The pattern of play was set in the opening ten minutes as Ringmer began to dominate with Kieran Patel and Simon Greatwich combining well on the right flank to repeatedly open up the visiting defence. However, the opening goal came after fifteen minutes from the opposite flank when Marc Whiteman capitalised on some sloppy defending to chip over the Robins goalkeeper, Joel Harding and although a covering defender tried to clear off the line he could only help the ball into the net. Ten minutes later Jack Johnson cut in from the left flank before steering his shot inches wide of the near post. Then a move down the right wing involving Greatwich, Whiteman and Luke Gedling ended with Harding just reaching the final cross ahead of Patel. Meanwhile Hassocks were failing to penetrate the Ringmer defence with Paul Thomsett, Dave Soutar and Miles Scerri in commanding form.

 

The first shot from the visitors came two minutes into the second half with Joe Adams diving low to his left to turn a shot from Lawrence Robinson round the post for a corner. Moments later Glen Matten’s cross from the right was perfectly weighted for Nick Barden to run in from the left wing to head the ball home at the far post. Ringmer continued to press forward. Johnson’s shot was spilled by Harding but scrambled clear before the advancing Patel could pounce on the loose ball and then Amro Shaker connected with a pass from Matten but could only slide it passed the near post. Hassocks continued to pose little threat to the home goal with Adams seldom called into action. Their best chance came late in the game when a long range shot from Spencer Slaughter which was tipped over the bar by Adams.
