RINGMER FOOTBALL CLUB LTD 1st X1 FA Vase Match Report Ringmer 4 Lingfield 2 (FA Vase 1st Qualifying Round) 08/09/07 Report by David Ruffles
Ringmer twice surrendered the lead before two late goals secured their passage into the next round where they meet Sidlesham at the Caburn on 22nd September. The Blues took the lead in the third minute when a ball from Danny McLaughlin was not cleared by the visiting defence and Joe Dryer had time to control the ball before turning and firing under the goalkeeper and into the net. With Ringmer putting Lingfield under pressure Dryer almost doubled the lead but in a rare Lingfield attack Daniel Jones broke clear of the Ringmer defence to score with a shot into the bottom corner of the net. The Blues response was immediate with Ryan MacMillan’s overhead kick leaving the keeper stranded but Louis Perkins was on hand to clear the ball off the goal line. Dan Evans pounced on a loose ball in midfield to launch a powerful strike into the top corner of the net to restore Ringmer’s lead. In the remainder of the half Jones for Lingfield and Miles Scerri for Ringmer both failed to hit the target before a free-kick from Dryer rebounded off the Lingfield cross bar only for the smallest player on the pitch, Jack Johnson, to head back over the bar.
It was Dryer who got the second half to a flying start, first with a goal which was disallowed for an earlier offside and then when the keeper had to rush out to save at his feet. However the next goal came at the opposite end with Jones, who moments earlier had seen his lob over Joe Adams cleared off the goal line by Mark Price, levelling the scores with a shot on the turn from the edge of the Ringmer penalty area. For a time the initiative was with the visitors and although Aaron MacMillan was inches wide with a well-struck shot it was the introduction of the pace of Eddie Koboah into the action that ultimately turned the game back in favour of the home side. It was Koboah who restored Ringmer’s lead with some twenty minutes remaining with a shot from near the penalty spot which found the net via the underside of the crossbar. Then moments later a trip on Price inside the penalty area saw Marc Whiteman convert the spot-kick for Ringmer’s fourth goal of the afternoon. Lingfield fought back with Joe Adams denying danger man Jones and Danny Gillard in the last ten minutes to seal victory for the Blues.
