In a match which largely revolved around a tense midfield battle there was little to choose between the two sides and in the end a draw was probably a fair outcome. In the first hour neither side established control                  Report to come

The previous encounters between these two sides meant this was likely to be a fairly even contest with the outcome difficult to predict. Once again the Hanbury Park surface was cut up and heavy going with the uneven surface threatening to spoil the game.              Read Rob's Report

With two victories over Wick already this season Ringmer had high hopes of making it a hat-trick on Saturday and continuing their climb up the table but alas it was not to be.

Bexhill kicked off the first half, but it was Ringmer who took control of the game for the first 20 minutes and Simon Greatwich put Ringmer ahead in the 8th minute after Jayson Sowter had made his way to the Bexhill by-line and put in a high looping cross for Greatwich to nod in, unchallenged at the back post.

Ringmer took the lead in the 4th minute when Josh Lawrence took a lengthy run up to launch a long throw in, straight into the Saltdean goal mouth, their keeper was unable to hold on to it and as it dropped from his grasp it fell to Bonnicci who was Jonny-on-the-spot to fire home

Ringmer dedicate victory to Herve By Steve Hollis

Ringmer boss Steve Johnson praised the character of his players as they completed an emotional week with victory at home to Eastbourne United. Both sets of players linked arms to observe a minute's silence before the game in memory of Ringmer player Herve King, who collapsed and died on the pitch last Saturday. Herve's partner Sarah Benkal watched from the sidelines as Ringmer went on to win 2-1 thanks to goals from Marc Whiteman and a 30-yard screamer from Andy Hart. Nathan Milroy pulled one back for United with five minutes to go but Ringmer held on and dedicated the result to Herve's memory.

Johnson said: "It was a difficult day for everyone, for the opposition as well as us, and there was a sense of relief at the end. It was very quiet in the changing room before the match and the players were very emotional after the game. "The players all linked arms for the minute's silence and that shows what a close-knit football community we have in Sussex. Herve's partner was there too and it was nice for her to see how much he meant to people. "The football was secondary really but the boys wanted to win for Herve's memory and I have never seen so many people throw their bodies at balls in my life. They were absolutely magnificent considering they are all still grieving."

Three Bridges, who were Ringmer's opponents last week, also dedicated their 5-2 victory at home to Hailsham to Herve. French midfielder Williams Peauroux scored four and Gary Anderson marked his comeback from four months on the sidelines with the other. Boss Paul Faili said: "The boys were outstanding after last week's tragedy and showed real character. They wanted to win for Herve."

Ringmer FC is sorry to announce the death of Herve King. Herve collapsed in open play seventeen minutes into Saturday's game at the Caburn against Three Bridges. Herve was eventually taken to the Royal Sussex Hospital in Brighton after extensive treatment initially from Ian Fairs, Ringmer's sports therapist and his colleague Tracey Weller from Three Bridges and a number of spectators and players and then the crews of two ambulances. Despite the sterling efforts from all concerned Herve was pronounced dead earlier this evening.

Herve King had just re-signed for Ringmer and today's game was his third in this, his second spell at the club. Herve was a twenty seven year old data analyst who played previously for Croydon Athletic, Redhill, Chipstead and Burgess Hill.  Herve was a charming and popular figure wherever he played.

Ringmer U18s struggled to field a full squad for this match with numerous players injured and others away on holiday or otherwise incapacitated and unable to play. It may have been partly as a consequence of all these forced changes that Ringmer couldn’t settle for the first 25 minutes.

RINGMER U18 0 - 2 HASSOCKS U18

A minute’s silence was observed before the game in memory of Herve, as it was across the county today, but at the Caburn it was a particularly difficult and very poignant minute for the players, staff and supporters of the club. As the teams lined up, the two sides intertwined, alternating around the centre circle, linking arms showing how the loss of Herve King was not just Ringmer’s, but has been felt throughout County football in Sussex
