OAKWOOD 1 - 6 RINGMER

25/09/07

Report by Richard Soan (Chairman)

Ringmer progressed into the 3rd Round of the SCFA RUR Charity Cup with an excellent away win on Tuesday evening.

However, it was Oakwood who took the early honours when after 7 minutes Jamie Dean broke down their right flank, cut in and fired an excellent low shot into the far corner beating a diving Joe Adams.

This prompted Ringmer into action and playing some superb two touch football on an excellent playing surface the ever dangerous Joe Dryer opened Ringmer’s account on 15 Minutes with a driving run from mid-field and his low hard driven shot was too good for the Oakwood Keeper to keep out.

Ten minutes later Ringmer went ahead following a Dryer corner which found Danny McLaughlin at the near post to powerfully head home.

Ringmer were now in full flow and Oakwood had no answers to their flowing passing game and on 29 minutes a long ball from Ringmer's keeper Adams, found Miles Scerri, who's flick on through to Marc Whiteman let him break clear of the Oakwood defence and slide the ball under the advancing Glen Fitzroy in the Oakwood goal to increase the Blues lead.

Further changes came and went with Dryer, McLaughlin and Whiteman all missing good opportunities.

Then on 44 minutes with some excellent exchange of passes between Kieron Patel and Dryer accumulating in the latter hitting a pin point cross to the far post for the industrious Mark Price to knock home goal number 4.

With the half time whistle blown an exchange of comments between Oakwood’s Joe Ransom and Ringmer’s Jack Johnson saw both players being shown red cards, which only Referee Paul Barrett would be able to explain why.

With both sides reduced to ten men for the 2nd half the game became very much a mid-field battle with chances also being created at both ends and in fairness Oakwood’s Gavin Gordon should have done better on at least 2 occasions when he was presented with good goal scoring opportunities.

Ringmer increased their lead in the 85th minute when a crude challenge on Mark Price by Oakwood’s Scott Langridge in the penalty area and Miles Scerri easily converted the penalty kick.

Then in the closing sections Ryan Betsworth opened his Ringmer Senior Goal Scoring account with a delicate chip over the advancing Keeper following a poor clearance from the Oakwood defence.

This was an excellent all round performance from Ringmer who now look forward to a mouth watering Home League Cup Fixture against early League pace setters Wick this Saturday. Kick-off 3.00 p.m. at the Caburn.
