Presentation Evening 2008

2007 - 2008 Season

PRESENTATION EVENING

2008

The 2008 Presentations took place last night at  the Caburn Hall after a very nice three course meal and a few beverages  to get all in the mood.

This year there was to be a new award in the memory  of Herve King who died so tragically at Ringmer while playing the  game he loved so much. The room took a few moments to reflect on  Herve's sporting outlook on game and his happy, pleasant and easy  going nature and to take this on board for the future. Chairman  Richard Soan then said that Herve would have wanted all to enjoy  the evening as he certainly would have. This award The Herve King  Memorial Trophy was donated to the club by the family of his partner Sarah Benkel and fittingly the initial recipient of the Trophy was Luke Gedling who did much to help his team-mates overcome the tragedy.

Another special presentation was to go to Dorothy & Peter Brook, they were presented with a crystal decanter and  glasses to say a big thank you to both for their hard work and dedication  at the club. Dorothy retired at the end of this season after ten  years, Dorothy's work as hospitality host at the club has become  legendary with her home made cakes always' a hit with all. Both  have served on the committee at the club over the years but before  that they had spent many a year at Lewes FC, Peter informed me that  it was at Lewes FC they first met and that Dorothy had almost reached fifty  years of football connected with these two clubs. Dorothy said that  she did not want to retire but health has dictated it was time to  stop. I know for a fact it was not an easy decision for her as she  never wants to let anybody down. A big thank you to both and perhaps  we will see you outside watching a whole match with us

Chairman Richard Soan said that the tragic death of Herve King while playing for Ringmer overshadowed what in many respects had been a successful season. The first XI had reached the third round of the FA Vase for the first time in the club’s history. They also reached the final of the John O’Hara League Cup only to be beaten 9-10 in a penalty shoot out. In addition they reached the semi finals of the R.U.R. Cup and the Brighton Charity Cup. Pride of place went though to the achievements of the Reserves who finished second in the County League Reserve Section East to secure promotion and they also reached the semi final of the Sussex Intermediate Cup, for the first time since 1963, before losing 0-1 to the Sussex County League Division  3 champions, Loxwood.  Many of the Reserve players also played for the youth team. Even more remarkable, and a sure sign of the club’s commitment to bringing on the young players, 25 Reserve or Youth team players also featured on merit for the first XI during the year.
Richard Soan then presented the Reserves squad with their runners up medals.

I do apologies if you are not pictured recieving your medals but it happened so fast my flash on the camera could not keep up!!
