In the final game of the season started promisingly for the Blues with Joe Dryer running onto a pass from Luke Gedling in the third minute only to place his shot inches wide. However it was not long before the Redhill attack began to cause problems for Ringmer’s defence but for all their effort they did not have a shot worthy of the name in the first half hour. In the end it was Ringmer who took the lead after twenty five minutes with a goal out of nothing coming from Jack Johnson whose exquisite lob from out on the right found the top corner of the net. A minute later Marc Whiteman wriggled clear of the Lobsters defence but his shot was well blocked by Michael Czanner in goal for the visitors. Then some ten minutes before half time a misunderstanding between Danny McLaughlin and Dan Davies saw McLaughlin’s headed back pass go over Davies’ head for Marcel Dennis to fire into an empty net to level the scores. Then Whiteman was twice denied by Czanner as Ringmer sought to go ahead again before half time.

 

The second half saw the visitors take control of the match. Paul O’Donnell cleared a shot from Dennis off the line before the Lobster’s took the lead after fifty four minutes courtesy of a header from Tony Reid. Ringmer responded immediately to earn a string of corners and again Whiteman was denied his fiftieth goal of the season by Czanner. Then Davies made a superb one-handed save to keep out a powerful strike from close range by Reid. However with fifteen minutes left to play Wayne Robinson ran through the right side of the Ringmer defence to fire passed Davies for Redhill’s third goal. Undeterred Ringmer and continued to press forward and were unlucky when a long range rocket from Johnson hit the junction of post and cross bar before bouncing clear of the inrushing Whiteman.

 

With the final whistle Ringmer ended the season in a disappointing tenth place. However in the later game Ringmer Reserves beat Redhill Reserves 3-1 to celebrate their promotion to the Reserves Premier Division in style with goals from James Novis, Sam Sowter and leading scorer, Kieran Patel.
