CLYMPING 7 - 3 RINGMER 2ND X1

03/11/07

Match Report by Rob Hawkes

The Ringmer 2nd XI found the Clymping first team in a rich vein of form having just set their club record for their highest scoring win the previous weekend. There was therefore little doubt that they could find the net when they got the chance so it was just question of whether Ringmer could limit the number of chances Clymping got.

For the first ten minutes Ringmer looked a good match for Clymping, they moved the ball well and looked in control and just when we were saying how reckoned we could win this, Clymping started to show what a good footballing side they are, as they punished every defensive error Ringmer made. We could argue that their first goal shouldn’t have stood because the ref should have awarded Ringmer a free kick for a high boot. It was contested at the time that their third goal looked offside, but in the end probably wasn’t. We could argue Stonell was unfairly penalized when Mr Anderson awarded Clymping a penalty which led to their fourth? …and so on and so on… But by the end of the game Clymping had put 7 past Ringmer and missed as many more. They were worthy winners on the day and to protest otherwise would be pointless.

Looking for positives out of this painful encounter you’d have to say that the predominantly U18 side kept their composure and discipline throughout he game. They were not intimidated by the physically stronger opposition and Ringmer’s uncompromising, competitive challenges brought no end of complaints from the opposition’s bench, which was a good indicator that they were competing for every ball on the same level as the more experienced Clymping team. We also scored three good goals away from home. Betsworth opened the scoring for Ringmer in the 19th minute as he danced his way through the Clymping defense to score a good solo effort. Betsworth was again involved in Ringmer’s second in the 40th minute as he worked his way to the Clymping byline following a Throw in deep in the Clymping half, Ryan crossed the ball back across the goal mouth for Kieran Patel to tap home to make it 4-2 at half time.

Ringmer’s third was the product of excellent passing through midfield between Frost Gray and Patel. It was Kieran who finished the move by deftly chipping the keeper
