2nd X1 Reserve Division East Match Report

Ringmer Res 2- 0 Seaford Res

30/08/07

Report M & S Crouch

Ringmer's reserve side proved last night that last weeks 6-1 win over Bexhill was no fluke, with another well deserved win at the Caburn last night, although they had a much tougher side to contend with. The visitors Seaford, were a more physical side than Bexhill and had the ability to strike fast up front, both teams played some good looking football at times which made it an enjoyable contest to watch.

A few changes to the starting line up from last week saw first games for Keeper Dan Davies, Josh Lawrence stepping in as Captain, Matt Ford and Kieron Patel in midfield and with Mohamed Koroma coming in at No11. From last week at the back Joe Arnold, and Elliot Finney, midfield Aaron Last, Alex Flemming, and up front Ryan Betsworth & Joe Dryer with a full bench consisting of Chris Shoult, Chris Chessell, Tyrone Tarbitt, Josh Hawkes and Louis Munnery.

The first strike came straight away as Seaford quickly gained ground from the kick off, gaining a corner and narrowly shooting wide from the cross in the first few minutes. Ringmer quickly replied from the restart, advancing down field, but were halted after they were awarded a free kick some 26 yds out to the right of goal, this proved to be fruitful when Joe Dryer turned the ball over the defence and passed the Seaford keeper for goal number 1 after only five minutes.

The rest of the half was battled out in midfield for large periods with both sides working hard to set their attacks free. Ringmer did gain a greater percentage of the play though and were raining shots in from all directions but most were off target, however the visitors goalkeeper was on the ball and kept his team in the game. The visitors did get a few strikes in but were mostly met with a solid defence led by captain Josh Lawrence, Joe Arnold and a hard working Elliot Finney, who was working well on the left with Joe Dryer up front, Seaford won a corner in the 14th minute which was headed of the line by Ringmer, then their reply was saved at the other end by the keeper seconds later. Dryer came very close after 30 mins with another free kick in front of goal but the ball hit the crossbar and was cleared. A tense moment late in the half for Seaford when their keeper was caught out wide on the sideline with the ball, especially after Ringmer gained the ball off of him and had an empty goal to shoot at but in the excitement the final shot went wide much to the relief of the keeper.

Second half and the first chance came Ringmer's way after Seaford cleared a Blues free kick from their area only to have Lawrence return a shot which the keeper cleared. A few minutes later a good push up the right by no 11 Mohamed Koroma who's cross went behind the goal, this was just a practice run though as Koroma put over some good crosses later on.

The battle continued in midfield with the Blues still with the edge it seemed over Seaford as both teams made continuous efforts to gain a goal. Ringmer's no 7 Alex Flemming narrowly missed as he headed in from a free kick, then Lawrence just failed to connect with a low cross coming in from Koroma out on the right, minutes later Koroma found himself in front of goal with only a lone defender and the keeper to beat, the defender was beaten but the keeper did enough to put Koroma off shooting and the ball was kicked clear.

The Blues continued their siege on the visitors goal with shots going wide or high of goal, again the Seaford keeper saved the important goal bound shots. Not until the 84th minute did Ringmer's persistence finally pay off after a Dryer corner from the right caused a scramble in the goalmouth were Chris Shoult knocked it in over the line for the Blues second. Seaford never gave up the battle and fought on till the final whistle but they were beaten this time by a good all round team performance from the home side.

Please note, last match report against Bexhill said that Joe Dryer scored two goals and Ryan Betsworth scored 1, in fact it should have been 2 goals to Ryan and 1 to Joe sorry about that, thanks for putting us right. This has been amended on the leading scorers table and Stats sheet.
