RFC VETERANS
This Sunday will see a football match with a difference, the RFC Veterans will play AFC Ringmer at the Caburn kicking off at 11:00am. There will be a special appearance in goal (all being well) by our Chairman Mr Soan, unfortunately he will only be on for part of the match so if you want to heckle him you had better come for the start. Richard used to be a goalkeeper and first joined Ringmer in 1973 as a goalkeeper, he has also kept for Hailsham and Bexhill in his time. Don't forget we have a PIG ROAST followed by some Filmed Horse Racing after the Match.

NUTLEY VETS 1 - 2 RINGMER VETS 2
Ringmer dominated play from start to finish and had so many chances that spectators lost count. However, very much against the run of play Nutley took the lead just before halftime. Ringmer eventually got the result their performance richly deserved but they left it rather late with the goals from new signing Simon Cooley and Murray Barnett not coming until the last two minutes of the match. Ringmer FC Veterans will play in club’s regular colours and will compete in Fred Petty Veteran Challenge Cup (run by Mid Sussex League). Roughly 1 game per month (in round robin groups) from 1 Oct to 31 March with home games at the Caburn on Sundays with 11AM kickoff. If they finish in top 2 in their group they progress to knock out stages in April.

RINGMER VETS 5 - 4 DITCHLING VETS The Ringmer Vets found themselves under attack right from the start and seemed to be having a spot of bother with a strong attacking Ditchling side and ended going in at the break 4-1 down. The second half though saw a courageous effort to come back to run out 5-4 winners. More
Fred Pretty Veterans Challenge Cup Table The Veterans have completed their League fixtures with a 1-4 victory away at Lingfieldthanks to a hat-trick from Derrick Smith and another goal from Simon Pugh. Theresultsputs them into the Quarter-Finals of the Fred Pretty Cup as one of the three group winners and will play The Old Varndeanians at the Caburn on Sunday 30th March 2008 Kick off being 11:00am The Veterans gave AFC Ringmer a lesson in making the ball do the work and were convincing winners by 5 goals to nil. Derrick Smith gave the Vets the lead with a powerful strike after 15 minutes. Dave Peacock added 2 before half time, one a low header (well it would have been for anyoneelse - he was the only player on the pitch short enough to head the ball rather than kick it, and the other another unstoppable shot into the top corner of the net). Half time saw Richard Soan on for a cameo performance between the sticks. He managed a couple of good saves when diving at on-rushing forwards but his kicking was lamentable - he even presented Ian Wratten with the ball in front of an open goal and still AFC could not score. Simon Clark added a fourth for the Veterans and Dave Peacock completed the scoring and his hat-trick with some ten minutes left on the clock. Asked afterwards when he last scored a hat-trick he could not recall when or if he had ever done so before.

OLD VERDONIANS 2 - 2 RINGMER VETS Ringmer lost on Pen
The Veterans finished as one of the group winners and on Thursday met Old Varndeanians Veterans, the best of the third placed teams from the Group stages in the Quarter- final . A familiar face in the number 11 shirt for the visitors was Hailsham Town boss Kenny McCreadie who proceeded to tell the referee and the linesman how to run the game and duly picked up a booking during a goal-less first half. It was he who created the opening for OV to take the lead midway through the second half. A Derrick Smith penalty and a superb strike from the right flank by Simon Cooley which the keeper could only stand and admire as it flew into the net gave Ringmer the lead with under 5 minutes to play. But OV snatched a late and controversial equaliser when Ringmer goalkeeper, Colin Coddington (deputising for Graham Bannatyne who was in America on business), was impeded in a crowded goalmouth and the ball was adjudged to have crossed the line. Ringmer protested loudly for a foul on the keeper but after the game the referee conceded that he did not have a clear view of the incident. Anyway the match then went to a penalty shoot-out (no extra time in this competition) with Old Varndeanians progressing to the semi-final running out 4-1 winners.
