RINGMER FOOTBALL CLUB LTD 1st X1 Division One Match Report Ringmer 3 Sidley Utd 3 04/09/07 Report by David Ruffles
In a game played at a furious pace throughout Ringmer had to come from behind three times in order to draw with Sidley – a result that lifts the Blues into second place in the League.
Sidley took an early lead in the sixth minute as Steve Morris shrugged of a challenge from Sam Adams to cross for the unmarked Scott Price to head home at the far post. Ten minutes later a corner from Joe Dryer was met by Marc Whiteman at the near post and his glancing header put the home side on level terms. Both sides had a succession of chances. The best when Ringmer were awarded a penalty but Whiteman’s spot kick was well saved by keeper Danny Aver. Aver was soon called upon again when a fine flowing move down the left ended with Dryer’s cross being cleared by the Sidley defence but only as far as Eddie Koboah whose shot from twenty yards was tipped over by the keeper. At the other end Ringmer’s defence were repeatedly caught square and Sidley’s strikers were breaking through at will and May came to the rescue on a number of occasions with a string of fine saves. However, with half time approaching he was left cruelly exposed by his defence once more and this time he could do nothing to prevent a close range header from Morris finding the net.
The second half continued in similar vein with chances at both ends. Ringmer drew level when Dryer set Danny McLaughlin free on the left and his cross from near the corner flag was put in the net by the in-rushing Jack Johnson. With ten minutes left to play Sidley regained the lead with a goal out of nothing when Darren Witham curled a shot from wide on the left into the top corner of the net. Ringmer hit back immediately with a hard low shot from Whiteman which went between the keeper and his near post and into the net.
