RINGMER FOOTBALL CLUB LTD 1st X1 Division One Match Report Ringmer 2 St Francis Rangers 1 28/08/07 Report by David Ruffles
Ringmer moved into second place in the table after coming from behind to beat the Division 1 newcomers. In a lively opening St Francis Rangers took the lead after nine minutes when an incisive passing movement carved open the Blues defence to give Sam Jeremiah, the League’s top scorer, the opportunity to put a close range shot beyond Joe Adams. Both sides were playing attractive football and although Ringmer gradually gained the bulk of the possession they were unable to make the most of their chances as Marc Whiteman and Miles Scerri were unable to capitalise in a straight of crosses from either flank. The Blues best chance of the first half came with Luke Gedling’s free-kick on thirty seven minutes which wounded the ball before bouncing to safety off the cross bar. Then Jeremiah burst through a hesitant Ringmer defence only to strike the post when he looked certain to increase the visitor’s lead just before the half-time whistle.
The start of the second half was delayed while one of the assistant referees returned to the dressing room to collect his glasses. However when play got underway Ringmer continued their search for an equaliser which duly came on the hour when a corner from Nick Barden fell to Gedling in front of goal just outside the penalty area. His shot through a ruck of players was met by Whiteman who re-directed it beyond the reach of the keeper. With the scores level the Blues stepped up a gear with Scerri and Whiteman both going close to scoring. In a rare breakaway Jeremiah broke clear only to put his shot wide of the target. By now the pace of Koboah was causing problems to the visitor’s defence and with just ten minutes left he was tripped inside the penalty area. Whiteman made no mistake with the resultant spot-kick to secure all three point for the home side.
