RINGMER FOOTBALL CLUB LTD 1st X1 Division One Match Report Ringmer 5 Three Bridges 0 17/03/08 Match Report by David Ruffles
Ringmer warmed up in for Friday’s John O’Hara cup final date with Shoreham with an emphatic victory over sixth placed Three Bridges.
It was clear from the outset that both sides were intent on playing attractive football making intelligent use of the width of the pitch in efforts to breach their opponents’ defences. The first chance came after some fifteen minutes when a long range shot from Markel Greenidge was comfortably saved by Joe Adams. Then a fine run down the wing by Andy Hart ended with a pass to Luke Gedling whose strike from just outside the penalty area was turned away for a corner by Mark Fox in the visitor’s goal. The Blues took the lead on thirty eight minutes with a spectacular overhead kick from Marc Whiteman. At half time a one goal advantage to Ringmer was a fair reflection of a game between two evenly matched and skilful sides. But the dismissal of Mark Zydonik in the first minute of the second half for pulling Whiteman down as he bore down on goal - his second bookable offence- reduced Bridges to ten men and Ringmer took full advantage to go on a goal scoring spree.
Ten minutes into the half a pass from Gedling put Whiteman clear to slide the ball into the net between the advancing Fox’s legs as the keeper attempted to close him down. By now substitute Simon Greatwich was beginning to have an impact on his debut. It was his pass which set up Miles Scerri to score a third goal for the Blues. Although Greenidge had a couple of chances to score for Bridges, Ringmer were on the rampage with Whiteman and Scerri having a private battle over who would score next. The fourth goal came three minutes from time when Fox could only push a cross from Nick Barden into the path of Scerri who made no mistake from close range. A minute later it was Scerri who completed his hat trick after fine work by Greatwich.
