Crowborough AFC U18s 1 - 0 Ringmer U18s

Crowborough’s impressive new facilities made an excellent backdrop for what turned out to be a fiercely competed, if ultimately frustrating, cup game.

 

Ringmer started the first half brightly and for the first 20 minutes Crowborough struggled to keep up with them. However Ringmer started to fade and some uncharacteristic wayward passing allowed Crowborough back into the game. It was then the home side’s turn to dominate the last 25 minutes of the first half, putting the Ringmer defence under considerable pressure. Dan Davis was called upon a couple of times to stop Crowborough from taking the lead, pulling off some great saves to keep Ringmer in contention.

 

The first half concluded goalless and with wise words during the break from Messrs Johnson, Munnery and Oliver the lads got refocused on the job in hand and started the second half a much improved and more cohesive side, creating many more chances on goal. Unfortunately, few hit the target and as a consequence Ringmer were unable to make their dominance count.

 

Ringmer were forced into making a couple of changes early in the second half as both Buckle and Shaker retired injured, replaced by Novis and Djevdet.

 

Ringmer’s inability to convert their dominance into a winning goal eventually cost them the match as they didn’t clear a route one assault on their goal 5 minutes into injury time, allowing Crowborough to score the only goal of the game. A last gasp substitution bringing Smith on for Betsworth did not change the outcome.
