RINGMER FOOTBALL CLUB LTD U18 Central Division Match Report Ringmer U18s – 0 v 2 – Hassocks U18s 24/02/08 Match Report by Rob Hawkes
A minute’s silence was observed before this game started in memory of Herve King who died last weekend during Ringmer’s 1st XI game against Three Bridges.
Ringmer U18s struggled to field a full squad for this match with numerous players injured and others away on holiday or otherwise incapacitated and unable to play. It may have been partly as a consequence of all these forced changes that Ringmer couldn’t settle for the first 25 minutes. Unfortunately by this time Hassocks had already capitalized on two defensive errors in the first 9 minutes giving themselves a comfortable two goal lead early on.
After the second Hassocks goal had gone in it looked like it was going to be a long and difficult morning for the U18s, but undaunted Bob shuffled his pack of players on the park to strengthen his defence and urged his players on. Once they had settled into the game Ringmer matched Hassocks blow for blow and finished the half much stronger than they had started it.
Bob made a double substitution at half time bringing on The Two Ryans for Shaker and Stanley.
Ringmer put in a great second half performance, playing most of it in the Hassocks half of the pitch, but the Hassocks back four soaked up the pressure and Ringmer were unable to make their domination count. The only thing that marred the sterling Ringmer second half performance was the second yellow card that Mr Welch felt was necessary to issue to Jesse Stonell, dismissing him from the field of play in the 89th minute.
