RINGMER FOOTBALL CLUB LTD U18 Central Division Match Report Hurstpierpoint U18s - 2 v 7 - Ringmer U18s 18.11.07 Match Report by Rob Hawk
This was the proverbial game of two halves. The first half was a poor scrappy affair on a bumpy surface with long grass that wasn’t conducive to good football being played. The only highlights of the first half were the two goals for Ringmer: Smith tapping in a quality cross from Taylor at close range in the 19th minute and 3 minutes later when Amro Shaker ran through the Hurst defence to tuck the ball underneath the onrushing keeper to make it 0 – 2 to Ringmer, which was how the first half conclu
The second half started with an early attack from Hurst who ran through the centre of the Ringmer defence unchallenged requiring a good save from Dan Davis to prevent Hurst narrowing the gap In the 54th minute Bob made a few changes bringing Hawkes on in midfield for O’Donnell with Stonell dropping into his more familiar role at Centre Back and in the 58th minute he brought on Sewell on for Arnold in defence
These changes seemed to bring life and cohesion into the Ringmer side (not that either of the two lads substituted were in anyway under performing). In the 64th minute Ryan Betsworth got his first and Ringmer’s third goal when he out paced the Hurst Centre Backs to run onto a good route one through ball and beat the keeper 1 on 1. Bob then made his final change in the 66th minute when he brought on Frost for Smith, up front.
Whether Ringmer had momentarily switched off in defence or whether they were still getting used to the recent changes it’s hard to say, but Hurst effortlessly got to the Ringmer by-line, cut the ball back and tapped home to make it 1 – 3. Ringmer’s response was immediate as Ryan worked his way to the Hurst by-line leaving their keeper stranded and crossed the ball for Rob Frost to score with his first touch of the game, to restore the 3 goal margin
From a set piece free kick just outside the Ringmer area, Hurst scored a carbon copy of their first goal as the ball was floated beyond the Ringmer back post, cut back and tapped in to make it 2 – 4. However, the increased tempo injected into the game by Ringmer’s midfield suited Ringmer more than Hurstpierpoint and this dominance resulted in numerous chances for Betsworth and Frost up front. Ryan got his second and Ringmer’s fifth goal with a diving header to connect with a testing cross pinged in by Amro. Six minutes later Ryan got his hat trick as Amro volleyed back a Hurst goal kick for Ryan to run on to, round the keeper and tap home to make it 2 - 6
An excellent second half performance was rounded off with Ringmer’s seventh goal as Betsworth headed home a beautifully floated free kick from Novis wide right. The game concluded 2 – 7 with Ringmer picking up three well earned points.
