RINGMER FOOTBALL CLUB LTD Ringmer U18s 5 - 2 Mile Oak U18s 07/10/07 Report by Rob Hawkes
From the first whistle this match promised to be an exciting second round cup tie. The pace was fast and frantic in the first 10 minutes with Ringmer creating early chances. Rob Frost managed to convert one of these to give the home side their first goal in the 8th minute. Betsworth increased the lead in the 26th minute, running onto a good through ball from Buckle which he fired emphatically into the back of the net.
One of the best moves of the game came from some great interplay between Bonnicci and Hawkes down the Ringmer right wing concluding in a wicked ball fizzed across the Mile Oak goal mouth, which was met by the on rushing Betsworth who headed it just over the bar. A good first half from Ringmer was crowned with an equally good third goal, this time from Bonnicci who controlled and excellent diagonal ball from Amro Shaker, to nip past a couple of defenders and beat the Mile Oak keeper one on one to make the score 3 – 0 at half time.
Ringmer kicked off the second half, but it was Mile Oak that started with a renewed determination to get back into the game and Ringmer were fortunate not to concede early on. Ringmer made two substitutions in the 52nd and 62nd minute (Taylor on for Bonnicci and O’Donnell on for the injured Buckle), but they were unlucky to concede the fourth goal of the game (68) as a miss-kicked goal kick landed at the feet of a grateful Mile Oak striker who returned the ball into the empty Ringmer net to make it 3 – 1.
Ringmer’s response was immediate as Rob Frost converted a throw in, in the 70th minute, to restore the three goal cushion. Seven minutes later he secured his hat trick beating both the Mile Oak Keeper and a defender to deftly nod a 50:50 ball over the keeper into the back of the net. However, this time it was Mile Oak whose response was immediate and Paul O’Donnell’s efforts in the 78th minute to prevent the Mile Oak striker getting a shot off were adjudged to be a little too vigorous by Mr Savage, who awarded the visitors a penalty kick. This they converted to make the final score 5 – 2.
Ringmer now progress to the third round.
