RINGMER FOOTBALL CLUB LTD U18 Central Division Match Report RINGMER U18 6 - 1 NEWHAVEN U18 04/11/07 Match Report by Rob Hawkes
Sometimes a couple of cans of Red Bull and a high tempo warm up routine is just not enough to wake up some players. This morning it took a Newhaven goal in the first minute to light the fire in some of the Ringmer lads. It has to be said though that for some of them they were starting their third game in four days and they may be forgiven for looking a bit tired today.
Paul O’Donnell opened Ringmer’s scoring in the 12th minute when a miss-hit corner eventually found him at the back post to tap home from close range. Andy Bonnicci put Ringmer ahead 6 minutes later when Hawkes plucked a high ball out of the air and played it wide to Bonnicci running down the right wing before firing past the Newhaven keeper. In the 28th minute Ringmer’s lead was extended when a Newhaven defence turned the ball into his own net attempting to block a testing cross from Amro Shaker who was looking to find Bonnicci lurking at the back post, ready to turn the ball in had the cross reached him.
Scott Taylor rounded off a good half hour’s football for Ringmer when he latched on to another pass from Hawkes who had battled to win the ball in midfield and ping it out wide for Taylor to run on to. Scott finished with style, firing through the keeper’s hands to make it 4 – 1.
The second half started with two changes for Ringmer as Bob and Steve opted to rest Hawkes and Munnery, bringing on Novis and Stonell in centre midfield. For the first 15 minutes of the second half Newhaven went down to ten men as one of their players retired unable to continue playing. Only having eleven players at his disposal and having to manage, coach, run the line and be the team physio, the Newhaven Manager was left with few alternatives. In a good natured game, one of the nicer sporting gestures was made by Bob Munnery who arranged for a linesman to take over the Newhaven line so their manager could attend to his fallen player on the other side of the pitch. He was then able to resume play after skilful application of the magic sponge.
Sinan Djevdet, who was enjoying his first start of the season, extended Ringmer’s lead in the 59th minute deftly firing past the out stretched Newhaven keeper into the bottom left hand corner of the net, to make it 5 -1.
Another sporting gesture to get Newhaven back into the game was made by Ringmer keeper Dan Davis. He was clearly getting bored in goal and attempted a body check better suited to Ice Hockey than football. Needless to say Mr Roland awarded a penalty kick, but Newhaven failed to convert it.
In the 65th minute Ryan Betsworth came on for Sinan Djevdet and ten minutes later he tapped in a deflected shot from Stonell to bring the final score to 6 -1. This was a good win and a confident performance by Ringmer albeit against an under strength Newhaven side who despite the score line gave a good account of themselves.
