RINGMER FOOTBALL CLUB LTD U18 Central Division Match Report Ringmer U18s 1 - 2 Whitehawk U18s 09/09/07 Report by Rob Hawkes
Whitehawk clearly enjoyed their visit to The Caburn Ground today walking away with all three points from a game they were evidently very hungry to win. Ringmer were forced in to making a few changes to their starting line up as a couple of players were unavailable through injury.
From the first whistle it was clear that Ryan Betsworth had been identified as a real threat for Ringmer as he received some special attention from the strong Whitehawk defence, which Mr Robinson did well to address early on. The action was fast and furious moving from goal mouth to goal mouth with both teams’ efforts calling the keepers into action. Much of the play was urgent, scrappy and physical calling for some solid committed tackling from both sides, but in so doing the play was often inturrpted with numerous free kicks being conceded.
Ringmer took the lead in the 16th minute with Robbie Frost pressuring the left hand side of the Whitehawk goal and his shot being deflected into the net by a Whitehawk defender.
Despite several good chances from the home side with Betsworth and Frost linking well up front the first half finished 1 – 0 to Ringmer.
It was evident when Ringmer kicked off the second half that the lads had listened to Bob and Steve’s half time talk as they started to get the ball down and play some good football which opened up Whitehawk creating numerous chances, but failure to convert these left the visitors the opportunity to draw level which they did, against the run of play in the 54th minute, following a throw in, deep inside the Ringmer half, that wasn’t cleared.
Three minutes later Ben Ruth suffered an ankle injury and had to be replaced in midfield by substitute Joe Arnold. Two further changes were made by Bob & Steve to freshen things up with Jake Buckle coming on for Paul O’Donnell and Aaron Bright coming on for Scott Taylor in the 71st and 82nd minute, but Whitehawk’s continued pressure eventually resulted in their second goal being scored six minutes from time as the Ringmer defence failed to deal with another attack down their left hand side. Despite repeated Ringmer attacks in the closing stages of the game they could not find the equaliser they needed.
