RINGMER FOOTBALL CLUB LTD 1st X1 Division One Match Report Ringmer 1 Worthing Utd 0 15/09/07 Report by David Ruffles
The game was ruined as a spectacle by the spoiling tactics of Worthing Utd. In a first half in which Ringmer had the majority of the possession neither side was able to put a single shot on target. Ryan MacMillan, Dave Soutar and Joe Dryer were all off target for the Blues while the veteran pairing of Gavin Geddes and Gavin Jones fared no better for the visitors. After thirty five minutes a crude tackle by Lee Cattell on Sam Adams resulted in Cattell being sent off while Adams was helped from the field with possible cruciate ligament damage which could see him side-lined for a long time.
Early in the second half a shot from Dan Evans was spilled by the visiting goalkeeper and Mark Price was on hand to force the ball across the line to give the Blues the lead. Ringmer were unable to capitalise further on the one man advantage as their passing game was continually disrupted by their opponents, leaving the home supporters anxious that the visitors might score an undeserved equaliser. However the picture changed dramatically with some ten minutes remaining on the watch when Danny Smith was adjudged to have handled a shot from Dan Evans on the goal-line. Smith was immediately sent off along with Warren Levy who received a second booking for protesting about the decision. When play resumed, with the visitors now down to eight men, goalkeeper Tony Di’Barnado flung himself to his right to keep out the spot kick from Evans. Then he did equally well to tip over the crossbar a close range effort from Price. At the other end Gavin Jones almost snatched a dramatic late equaliser with a shot from a narrow angle which Ryan MacMillan had to clear off the goal-line.
