Ringmer
2nd
XI – 0 v 1 – Whitehawk 2nd
XI Reserve
Premier Division 24/04/09 Match
Report by Steve Frost When
these two sides met for Ringmer’s second game of the season in
August, Whitehawk just nicked it, well tonight they did not nick it,
Ringmer gave it to them when they tried in vain to play the offside
trap. The
first half passed without either side looking like they would score.
Ringmer were the livelier, they moved the ball around crisply
however they were unable to supply any penetration of the
oppositions defence as the final delivery failed to reach its
target, often going straight to the opposition. Ringmer’s
first half action started after 4 minutes when Neil received a
through ball which he cut left for Ben whose shot went right of the
target. It was a further 13 minutes before a combination of passing
on the right between Jesse and Andy won a corner which Ringmer
failed to capitalise on. On the half hour Neil supplied a ball for
Tom who was near the penalty spot, he could not get the shot away,
the loose ball fell to Ben Ruth who did connect securely however the
shot went out of the ground. On 45 minutes, Rob robbed the ball
from the Whitehawk midfield, he broke away down the left and into
the area, his shot went just wide of the right post. (0-0) @ HT. Ringmer
started the second half in a similar fashion to the first when after
3 minutes, Neil broke down the right where he twisted and turned to
lay the ball back for Tom who was unable to get the shot away.
The
next fifteen minutes found Whitehawk in the ascendancy but still not
looking like they would score. On 65 minutes, Ben Ruth signalled
that he needed to be substituted, Ben C came into midfield and Andy
was moved up front. On the restart, Louis supplied a ball down the
left that was gathered by Rob on the half way line who literally
took it down the line to win a Ringmer corner that provided no
opportunity. 25
minutes after the restart Ben W is forced to make his first save of
the game as Whitehawk break down the left. 10 minutes later,
Ringmer pressed the self-destruct button when they decided to play
the offside trap; it did not work as it left Ben W facing an
unexpected one-on-one which he lost as Whitehawk placed the ball
into the Ringmer net.
Ringmer
tried to recover the situation with some good link up work between
Rob and Andy whose lob just failed to beat the opposition keeper,
later Jesse battled hard to win Ringmer a corner on the right. The
inbound ball was met powerfully as a header passed narrowly over the
Whitehawk goal. The
game finished shortly after Tom O'Donnell received a yellow card
(0-1 @ FT).
