RINGMER 1 – 2 THREE BRIDGES

DIVISION ONE

22/08/09

Report by David Ruffles

The match got off to a lively start with Dean Wright almost giving the visitors the lead in the first minute before Ringmer took the lead in the fifth minute. A cross from the left fell into the path of Matt Percival advancing towards the Bridges penalty area and his low shot went beyond the reach of goalkeeper Mark Fox and into the net. During the rest of the half the play switching from either end with neither side really having another shot on target. Ringmer probably had more possession and so a single goal lead was a fair reflection of the half as a whole.

Three Bridges took the initiative early in the second half with two goals in the first ten minutes. The first when Carl Dunk curled his free-kick around Ringmer’s defensive wall and into the bottom corner of the net with goalkeeper Sean McFadden in the opposite corner. Then, after Joe Dryer had missed a chance to put the Blues back in front, a well placed header from Wright gave the visitors the lead. Again Dryer just missed a chance to level the scores soon afterwards before the Blues were reduced to ten men with the dismissal of Ollie Rowe for a second bookable offence. Now playing one man short for the last twenty or so minutes the Blues defence struggled to contain the Bridges attack while the midfield was almost completely overrun. Nevertheless Ringmer twice almost scored in the last five minutes. The first when a cross from Kevin Barden was back-heeled towards goal by Jo Jo Tubon and although Fox fumbled the ball he recovered to regain possession before another Ringmer boot could direct it into the net. Then a corner from Dryer was cleared to the feet of Tubon only for his shot thorough a pack of players and just inches wide of the goal.
