Ringmer 1st X1 5-4 Arundel 1st X1 Division One 23/03/10 The Crouch's
Ringmer showed true character tonight after a nightmare first 20 minute period going down 3-0 to visitors Arundel. The Blues were still in the changing room as the visitors filled their boots. A forced substitution on 23 minutes gave Ringmer a change of play and within a minute the home side started to haul back the deficit with a goal from Ryan MacMillan, Then on the half hour Macmillan struck again and got his and Ringmer's second. With the Blues defence now settled the visitors were finding goal chances harder to come by. The Blues true grit finally got the goal everybody was waiting for with Jo Tubon heading in to level the score at 3-3 at the break. The second half Ringmer took control for the first twenty minutes, launching attack after attack. Shots from Dryer, MacMillan, Patel and Altendorff trying out Arundel's replacement keeper but all failed to make the target. Arundel's chances were thin on the ground during this period with just two attempts coming close. The Blues fans then erupted after Kieran Patel made it 4 -3 to the Blues in the 65th minute. However this elation was again short lived as 6 minutes later some sloppy defending let in Arundel again to level at 4-4. With the action penduluming back and forth it was an agonising last quarter for all. Then in the last minute man of the match Jo Tubon headed in the winner for the Blues, 5-4 at the final whistle.
Everything looked good for a great game of football, the pitch looked good and the weather was holding off, just a small breeze had the supporters zipping up their coats, Little did the Blues fans expect the nightmare start that ensued.
Arundel went straight for the jugular and within 5 minutes had swept through an un- ready Blues defence to put away their first of three goals. First Josh Biggs shot past Tom Rand and into the bottom right of the net the Blues keeper, who had come out to meet him, the second 5 minutes later from striker Gary Norgate after the Blues again failed to stop the attack. 2-0. The third came on 18 minutes after the defence failed to clear the ball satisfactorily and Arundel returned with Norgate beating the line and Rand to go three up.
Shock and disbelief from the sidelines, that we could be 3-0 after 20 minutes with out even a sniff at the visitors goal! The Blues were then forced to make a substitution after their captain Aaron Hasan, picked up an injury, Dave Soutar came on and the game took on a different style of play, I hasten to add it was no reflection of Aaron going off but the change in play that changed the game.
Within a minute Ryan MacMillan had put Ringmer back on track his volley into the net from ten yards, after it bounced around the visitors box gave the Blues an awakening call. A few minutes later Joe Dryer's free kick glanced of the wall and fell for Aaron Philips who shot over the goal. With Ringmer attacking more now a shot hit the visitors bar and rebounded out to MacMillan who duly headed the ball home for Ringmer 2nd goal on the half hour. 2-3. More Ringmer chances go frustratingly wide or high as the Blues look to level before the break, then with two minutes left to go on the clock a Joe Dryer cross found Jo Tubon in front of goal to head in much to the delight of the Ringmer crowd. 3-3 at the break.
Much talk of the great come back at half time on the terraces and a new belief that the Blues could pull this one off. Arundel had to change their keeper for an outfield player and they brought on their only sub.
Ringmer dominating the first 20 minutes with Patel working well up the right crossing in to MacMillan then on to Dryer who's shot went high over. A few minutes later a Joe Dryer free kick finds MacMillan who header is saved by the new keeper only to bounce around on heads finally coming out to Altendorff who rather skied his shot, then a minute later Altendorff had another shooting chance this time it went just wide. A free kick from Dryer to Altendorff who passed to Patel but his shot was again wide of the target. On 61 mins the first break from Arundel came close but the final shot went wide. Three minutes later a second attack by the visitors almost found it's mark, once again the shot going wide. It was then Dryers to send a shot to the heavens after good build up work from Patel and Altendorff. Ringmer were pressing hard and this paid of in the 23rd minute when Patel toe poked in a loose ball that was pinging around Arundel's area to take the lead at 4-3, the stands erupted in jubilation at turning the tables.
However, there always has to be one doesn't there, this jubilation turned to frustration 6 minutes later as Arundel score again to level 4-4, a scrappy defence failed to mark Arundel's Matt Huckett on the penalty spot who headed in a fine cross sent in from the right.
The last quarter was an agonizing 15 minutes with both sides all out to get the winner, the Blues seemed to be fairing better with shots from Tubon & Dryer and a free kick by Philips which bent well and had to be headed out for a corner which was cleared out. Minutes later Jon Marzetti kicked a long ball to find MacMillan in the visitors area but he just failed to get a good contact with the ball. With only a minute to go of normal time Tubon got on the end of a cross from the right and headed over the keeper in to the top left hand corner to take the Blues back into the lead at 5-4. A period of added time was played but the score remained the same as the whistle blew for the end of the match.
A Blues side which showed great character to come back and win such a match, we all lost our way in the first twenty but true grit and determination from all won through. A great and well earned three points .
Thanks to all for winning, I had some awful headlines going around in my head at the beginning, thank god I didn't have to use them.
