Match Team and Report
Chichester City 1st X1 1 – 1 Ringmer 1st X1 Division One 24/04/10
With six 1st teamer's absent a certain amount of shuffling around had to be done for the match against 3rd places Chichester City.
Ringmer started the brighter but the first half was largely uneventful with the play swinging back and forth with no easy chances for either side. Lewis Brown's shot on the volley after 7 minutes and Darren Lok's shot after a good run down the right were saved by the Chi keeper Tom Boyd. Then David Altendorff received a long ball from Brown, but the end shot went just wide, on the half hour Altendorff's powerful goal bound shot a few minutes later was deflected out for a corner.
Chichester started to put on the pressure in the last fifteen making more of an impression on the Blues defence, Tom Rand saving two free kick in the Blues goal, on 40 minutes, shots from the home side were hard come by as the defence worked hard in the hot sun, those that did get through went wide or over. At the home end Jo Tubon looked good to score but the ball bounced a bit to much and his shot went high over the bar. Then a break up field by Jayson Sowter took the ball through the midfield and passed onto Price who rounded a defender to shoot into the back of the net for the opening goal on 45 minutes.
The second half started with Chi straight on the attack, their Joe Briggs crossing from the left into the Blues area where unfortunately an unlucky Brown volleyed into his own net in an attempt to clear the ball bringing the scoreline level again at 1-1 after only 3 minutes of play.
Ringmer looked the better to score after this as they went looking for a winner. Kieran Patel heading over the Chi bar on 10 minutes, again Altendorff volleyed in a cross from Lok and again this was deflected over for a corner. Brown then made a run down the left and passed to Altendorff who's pinpoint cross to the centre had Sam Sowter head narrowly over the bar. Patel also came close again five minutes later but shot just wide. Sam Sowter then had a couple of good chances with keeper Boyle making a terrific block doing a great job for Chi in the home goal. Then with 5 minutes to go Chichester were awarded a contentious penalty, with Blues captain, Price, ending up leaving the field for protesting to much. However luckily for Ringmer Dave Kelly's spot kick was saved by the upright. Final result 1-1.
