RINGMER 2 – 1 CRAWLEY DOWN

DIVISION ONE

11/08/09

Report by David Ruffles

Division 1 newcomers Crawley Down came out straight from the kick off with all guns blazing and could have been two goals to the good inside the first ten minutes. This set the tone for the entire first half as Ringmer’s defence was fully stretched by the pace of the wide players on either flank. Only some woefully finishing, the woodwork and a couple of fine saves from Sean McFadden kept the score line blank at half time by which time the Blues had yet to register a shot on target.

Ringmer started the second half in a livelier mood but inside ten minutes they found themselves one goal behind courtesy of an opportunist goal from Dan Sullivan. Crawley Down were awarded a free kick some thirty yards out from the Blues goal and as Sullivan prepared to take the kick he spotted McFadden well off his line and still lining up his defensive wall allowing Sullivan the chance for a chip over the stranded McFadden and into the unguarded net. The introduction of Patel and Barden into the action soon afterwards saw Ringmer press forward more purposefully in search an equaliser. Initially the visitors goal had something of a charmed life before Joe Dyer levelled the scores with just three minutes left on the clock following a cross field pass from Jayson Sowter that put Dryer clear to attack down the left flank. Then with little more than a minute remaining Alex Mikolay’s pass enabled Kieran Patel to place the ball out of reach of Rob Hitchcock in the visitors goal.
