Match Team and Report

RINGMER 1st X1 2 – 1 CROWBOROUGH ATH 1st X1

DIVISION ONE

05/04/10

Report by the Crouch's

Ringmer again got a rude awakening for the second match in a row when visitors Crowborough scored after only six minutes to take the lead. Although the Blues had started brightly with a first minute corner and free kick it was a Crows corner which led to the first goal of the match in the sixth minute after some heavy pressure from the visitors. A poor clearance which was chipped back in by Crowborough's Kevin Everest, over the Blues keeper Jack Stern and into the net.

Ringmer then went into attack mode and gradually gained control, Glen Matten's superb long ball forward giving David Altendorff the first chance on 18 minutes but his double header ended going just over the bar. Then 4 minutes later Matten's corner kick was initally cleared out of the visitors area but it fell nicely for Joe Dryers boot to slam the ball home into the net passed a motionless Rob Gordon the Crows Keeper.

Ringmer kept up the pressure and kept the Crows in their own half for long periods, the visitors breaking out only to be repelled by a tighter defence of Soutar Marzetti, Matten, Sowter (J) and Mikolay all working well together. Ryan MacMillan came close for the Blues just before the half hour the first a cross from Darren Lok had Macca head in to Gordon's hands and then a few minutes later a goal bound lofted ball from MacMillan had Gordon save again. Then Dryer put's a through ball to have MacMillans shot stopped again.

On the half hour Crowborough put the pressure on, they won a long ball from their keeper and went for goal, Stern, under pressure, ran out of the Blues goal to clear but the clearance was blocked somewhat but the ensuing shot skied over the empty goal. Then Crows Sam Carrington shot on the turn to have Stern save. On the counter Ringmer's Lok, Altendorf Price advance through the visitors defence for Price to shoot just wide, Ringmer dominated the last 10 minutes with Lok working hard on the right wing, chances from Dryer, Sowter (J) Price and MacMillan all coming close.

The second half the Blues started as they had left off attacking, Loks cross into the area from the right almost had the visitors score an home goal in the first minute. Two minutes later Captain Dave Soutar headed just over a Matten corner. Then moments later a through ball from Lok finds Altendorff who just couldn't get a final touch. Then on 57 minutes Ringmer's pressure paid off, good play between Matten and Marzetti ended with a shot on goal, Gordon failed to hold on to the ball as Mark Price dived in low to head the ball over the line. 2-1 to Ringmer.

The hard working Lok was swapped for Sam Sowter, who linked up with Price again to almost score. The Blues continued their pressure on the visitors defence occasionally retreating to their own half to pick up the ball after a long ball down field. Crowborough coming close though on 68 minutes with a shot forcing Stern to make a good save with his feet at the near post.

A speculative shot came from Altendorff who picked up a goal kick from Stern, but his first time lob from the half way line went narrowley wide. More pressure from the Blues as they look for a third goal. MacMillan heads a Sowter( s) just over, A free kick on 75 minutes from Matten was tipped over the bar by Gordon for a corner. Aaron Philips who came on for Price hits the side netting with a shot on78 minutes.

Then Crowborough decided to put in a last ditch effort to get an eqaulizer and start piling on some sustained pressure. Their first chance forcing Stern to dive and push wide, the next came from a fluffed goal kick the ball falling for a Crows boot back in towards goal beating Stern but Marzetti clearing off the line to safety. Then two corners failed to make the Blues net the first going high over the second causing a bit of panic as it pinged about in front of the Blues goal until Stern made it safe.

Ringmer's defences held out for this last five minutes and the game ended with Ringmer the victors at 2-1 gaining another good 3 points. Well done to all.
