Report by David Ruffles

Ringmer put on arguably their best display so far this season but in the end they needed yet another last minute goal to salvage a point that was the least their performance deserved.

The match began with a frantic opening with players from both sides denied time and space to dwell on the ball. With both sides failing to create openings in the final third of the pitch neither goalkeeper was troubled in the first half hour. Then came a purple patch from the Blues during which Kieran Patel, Titus Paterson and Sam Sowter all came close to scoring. However the highlight of this ten minute spell was a fast flowing movement covering the whole length and width of the pitch and involving six players and ending with a shot from Kiefer Ardaen-Webb which shaved the top of the crossbar.

In contrast it was the visitors who dominated the early stages of the second half with Brad Manton missing a hat-trick of chances before Steve Morris gave them the lead following a corner when he bundled the ball across the line in a congested goalmouth. Ringmer’s response was immediate with Mark Price forcing a good save out of Adam Sargeant and David Altendorf unlucky to see his powerful header cannon to safety off the goal post.

The Blues were thankful for Gary Trott’s feet which prevented Rafal Ciupinski from doubling United’s lead some five minutes from time. Then Ringmer’s never say die mentality kicked in for a thrilling finale which ended in the fifth and final minute of stoppage time when a free kick from Price was smashed into the net from close range by Craig Brown to snatch a vital point for the Blues.
