Match Team and Report

LINGFIELD 1ST X1 3 – 3 RINGMER 1STX1

DIVISION ONE

17/03/10

Report by the Crouch's

Ringmer 1st X1 travelled to Lingfield and came away with a point after a scrappy 3-3  game which stifled the Blues somewhat from playing their usual game. Goals from Mark Price and Alex Mikolay put them ahead at the break at 2-1. Lingfield however pulled back level 7 mins into the second half, the home side then went ahead 6 minutes later to make it 3-2. Ringmer battled for the equalizer against a very determined home side. A late penalty was awarded to Ringmer after the keeper was deemed to have brought down Pricey, Ryan MacMillan converted to bring the game all square at 3-3.

The first ten minutes of this match was a slightly worrying time for the Ringmer supporters as they watched Lingfield launch into a frenzied attack on the Blues goal, the Blues struggled to get out of their own half and if they did Lingfield pumped the ball back up the field. Tom Rand in the Blues goal cleaned up after only 2 minutes after the home side penetrated the Blues defence. Then Lingfield's Eddie Koboah hit the woodwork a minute later, then another shot went just wide of the Ringmer post. Panic in the Blues area a minute after that when another shot pinged around in front of goal finally being stopped by Rand.

The first clean air for Ringmer came after 12 mins, a long ball to Jo Jo Tubon up the left flank who beat defenders to cross to an unmarked Mark Price on the edge of the box who shot passed keeper Adam Woodward for the opening goal. Ringmer had another good chance 2 mins later after a free kick destined for Price in the home box was punched clear by Woodward for a corner, the corner being cleared out.

As expected Lingfield came back strong with long balls forward creating headaches for the Ringmer defence of Soutar, Mercer, and Marzetti. Unfortunately a breech in this line on 17 mins let in Andy Dalhose to fire in passed Rand to level 1-1.

Ringmer attack well but the flow of play was endlessly interrupted with infringements as both sides battled hard for the ball. A Ringmer free kick into the area found Dave Altendorff who headed the ball into Woodwards hands, Altendorff was on hand 10 mins later to blast a shot that went just wide of Woodwards goal, moments later Joe Dryer tried a long range shot but Woodward saved easily.

Lingfield's attacks were still in abundance but Rand and his defence kept them at bay, Aaron Hasan, Alex Mikolay and Price as well working hard for the cause.

With half time approaching a last attack by the Blues ended with a goal after good play by Dryer on the right who crossed over into the home area with an overhead kick, Ryan Mac collected and chested down for Alex Mikolay to superbly shoot into the bottom left of the net. 1-2 to the Blues at half time.

The 2nd half started with Lingfield charging, Kaboah down the right sent in a cross that ran across the Blues goalmouth, then another shot went wide, this pressure soon wielded the spoils after a long ball had Marzetti defending facing an onrushing Rand who shouted to leave the ball, unfortunately Rand scuffed the clearance and it ricocheted to Lingfield's Andy Dalhose to pop in the empty goal for his and Lingfield's equalizer. 2-2

Lingfield were now looking to go ahead as they pressured the Ringmer side hard. On one such attack Rob Hicks shot through the defenders to take the lead after only 13 mins of play.3-2

Ringmer rallied after this and started to put some good moves together but all to often stout defending thwarted any attempt at goal. On one such move Price collected a through ball and went through on goal only to be fouled just inside the box, Altendorff took the awarded penalty but Woodward made a good save and the score remained the same.

Ringmer kept up the pressure with fresh legs on the field of Jayson & Sam Sowter working well together almost immediately getting a shot on goal forcing a save and gaining a corner. On 75 mins a Dryer free kick had Woodward tipping the ball over the home bar, a minute later another free kick went just wide. A few minutes later another free kick from Price found Dryer whose shot was saved by Woodward and the post.

Lingfield always looked dangerous on the break and almost went two ahead on one of these skirmishes, a defensive mix up almost let them in but a bit of good fortune for once saw the ball go wide. Back at the other end Jayson Sowter made a good cross into Dryer in front of goal but his shot was well blocked, then with a couple of minutes to go Price was again brought down, this time by the keeper, Ringmer were awarded a second penalty in which Ryan MacMillan made no mistake in converting to bring the scores level again at 3-3.

A nervous long period of stoppage time was felt by all as the two teams attacked and defended for all they were worth but no other chance was had and the match ended all square at 3-3.
