Report by David Ruffles

Ringmer’s indifferent form continued on Tuesday night. In the first fifteen minutes the play switched from end to end at a frantic pace with neither side troubling the goalkeepers. Then the incident came that ultimately settled the match. Ringmer keeper Sean McFadden dropped a cross from the left wing in a congested penalty area and Craig Bunch drove the ball into the net to give the visitors the lead. McFadden took a blow to the head during the build-up to the goal and suffered from blurred vision until his eventual replacement at half time by which time Ringmer had conceded another goal. McFadden again failed to deal with a high ball and a low diving header from Callum Saunders at close range increased Peacehaven’s lead. Then on the stroke of half time another mistake by McFadden almost gifted a third goal to the visitors but he recovered just in time to clear the ball with his feet.

With Sam Sowter, normally an outfield player, going in goal Ringmer boss Bob Munnery chose to give him the protection of his brother Jayson in the Blues backline and pushed Ryan MacMillan into midfield. For a time the Ringmer goal led something of a charmed life until a misunderstanding between David Altendorf and Kieran Mercer on the edge of the Blues penalty area created the opening from which Bunch scored his second goal of the game. Although Ringmer pressed forward for much of the half they failed to penetrate a packed defence until the closing stages when a shot from Jon Marzetti was spilled by Jake Buss in the Peacehaven goal before going behind for a corner.

This result lifted Peacehaven into second place in their first season back in Division 1 while the Blues slumped to sixteenth spot.
