The Crouchies

Ringmer travelled down to Selsey to get their league fight under way after the lay off. A slight change in the line up from Tuesday night with their win against Southwick. Ryan McMillan still out, Elliott Finney & David Altendorff not available, although Dave made it back just in time for the Reserve match at home, Titus Paterson also out injured. A first appearance this season for reserve player Neil Grant who played for most of the second half after replacing an injured Mark Price and more than held his own on the pitch. There was also new signing Ben Bowra making his debut and coming on for the second half in place of Darren Lok, and whom gave a good account of himself.

Although this match ended with no goals being scored it was far from being a boring game, in fact it was very entertaining with some very good football from both side. Both teams were very even and a winner could have come from either side.

For the first fifteen Selsey looked slightly the better bursting through Ringmer's defence giving Blues keeper the opportunity to stretch his limbs to save the shot, a few minutes later a long ball over the top saw Trott make another good save to send it over the bar.

Ringmer settled after 20 minutes and started to take more of the possession and the game, Mark Price with the Blues first real chance but a collision with the Selsey keeper Rob McLelland, thwarted the close range attempt and the ball was cleared. Selsey seemed to prefer to launch the ball down the field and to run on to the ball whilst Ringmer played the ball, passing and building using the wings for a goal attempt thus the play swung back and forth with small chances for both sides. Ringmer best effort came just before half time with a Joe Dryer (on for Sam Sowter) cross to Kieran Patel who headed in fractionally wide of goal.

Second half and Selsey put on the early pressure with Ringmer having a few difficulties in making any head way the home side seemingly changing their style and were playing their usual passing game. Once Ringmer cottoned on to this they got their act together and went on the attack. Joe Dryer and Kieran Mercer working well down the left forced a corner in which Dryer took and found Glen Matten who's header went just inches wide, more chances for Patel, Tubon and Matten but no end result. Selsey to had chances to take a winner the best forcing Trott to make two excellent saves from two consecutive powerful shots, saving the first and then a shot from close range from the rebound. Ben Bowra was almost the hero of the day for the Blues as he picked up a pass 26 yards out and ran in past two or three defenders and got a narrowed angled shot in that just went the wrong side of the upright.

A good game to watch and a good point, three would have been a whole lot better but both sides deserved the win so a draw was a fair result.
