RINGMER FC 2 – 1 SHOREHAM FC BRIGHTON CHARITY CUP SEMI-FINAL 17/04/10 Report by the Crouch's
Ringmer came out victors of this semi-final tie, beating visitors Shoreham 2-1 after extra time. Despite going one down again inside the first ten minutes the Blues battled tirelessly to take the win and go through to the final.
Ringmer were keen to win this match and they started well but as too often an early goal was conceded, although the goal decision was somewhat heavily contested. A cross in from the right into the Blues area was initially caught by the Blues keeper Tom Rand but the ball was bundled out of his hands by a Shoreham player, this fell nicely for Dean Smith to smash into the net for the opening goal.
The rest of the half went back and forth both sides having the smallest of chances as both defence lines worked hard to keep the opposition at bay. Ringmer's Joe Dryer's corner on 25 minutes almost levelled the score after Jon Marzetti headed just over. Then a few minutes later Sam Sowter's shot was deflected but Shorehams keeper Michael Hunter saved. Other shot's from Dryer, Price, Lok' and S Sowter all failed to find the target. Shoreham almost went two up just before the break after a high back pass from Jayson Sowter, had Rand jumping to head the ball clear after an awkward bounce, unfortunately he headed back towards the goal but luckily the ball just missed the post and out for a corner.
The second half carried on in much the same vein, both sides banging the long ball up field in an effort to catch out the defences. Ringmer had an early chance after Glen Matten back heeled to Lok who's run on goal ended with his shot being saved by Hunter. Ringmer seemed to be getting things together more this half and were getting more decisions go their way, unlike in the first half!! A Matten free kick across to Dryer on the left who shot had the keeper save. Then on 60 minutes a corner from Dryer pinged around in the visitors area and was finally laid back by Aaron Philips to Dave Soutar who had just come on for Alex Mikolay, who smashed the ball into the back of the Shoreham net to equalize. 1-1
Jo Tubon was brought on for the hard working and somewhat battered Mark Price and was soon in the fray. Just missing out on a second goal after Matten stuck in another ball into the Shoreham area.
On the half hour Shoreham had a certain goal cleared off the line by Soutar, then a few minutes later the visitors had another shot go wide. Both sides continue to attack and defend in turn but no winning goal came so extra time was called.
Ringmer defender Louis Brown had the first crack at goal his shot skipping across to go just wide. As all match the play swung back and forth with half chances from both sides but Ringmer looking just the more favourable to score. But nothing came and everything was all square at the whistle. Players were visibly drained, the hot weather and constant fast pace of the game telling on a few. The ref was quick to get the second period under way with little time for players to get any much needed fluid on board.
This period started with Ringmer on the attack gaining a free kick after 5 minutes of play some thirty yards out on the left, Dryer swung the ball in for Aaron Philips to head home into the bottom left of the visitors goal for Ringmer's second to take the lead. 2-1.
Although Shoreham battled on, the Blues did not give an inch, neither did they sit back and defend the one goal lead, further efforts by Jo Tubon and Sam Sowter were had on goal but without success. The final whistle finally went much to the home supporters relief and to a lot of the players no doubt.
Ringmer now play Wick in the final down at Worthing on Thursday 13th May @7:30 |
