ST FRANCIS RANGERS 1st X1 0 - 5 RINGMER 1st X1 S.C.F.L Division 1 13/03/2010 Reported by Ben Ashcroft With an upturn in form in recent weeks, the Blues travelled to St Francis Rangers in good spirits and were looking to keep their unbeaten run going. A dominant and battling performance saw the boys return home with another impressive victory in the bag. It started well for Ringmer and Ryan Macmillan and Jo Jo Tubon were causing problems for the home side’s defence. Ryan’s cross was well cleared in the early minutes before the Blues opened the scoring with a well worked goal. A long ball forward found the head of Macmillan and his glancing header fed the accelerating Jo Tubon. His first touch provided a perfect setup for him to blast past the goalkeeper and into the top right hand corner of the net – A perfect start for Munnery’s men. The goal provided a solid foothold for the Blues and they began to dominate proceedings. Macmillan headed over from a Joe Dryer corner and Jo Tubon went close with a flicked effort. Superb link up play from Glen Matten, Mark Price, Joe Dryer and David Soutar was causing all sorts of havoc down the flanks and after twenty minutes they linked up well on the edge of the area to provide Dave Altendorf with a glorious opportunity. After a goalmouth scramble fell at his feet, he had the time and space to pick his spot, but Rangers keeper Simon Lekhyj saved well. Jo Tubon then shot over from long range before a Glen Matten cross found Dave Altendorf, but his header looped up into the goalkeeper’s arms to keep the game in the balance. It really was all one way traffic and a goalbound Macmillan header was blocked on the line before Jo Tubon hit the side netting with a crisp half volley from an acute angle. The hosts did get a chance late on in the half but Tom Rand was on hand to mop up a goalmouth scramble. Half Time – Rangers 0 – 1 Ringmer. It really could have been game over for Rangers before the break and they appeared to come out of the blocks much better in the second period. Jake Forward tested Rand a minute after the restart and James Westlake was looking dangerous on the counter. But with solid defensive marshalling from Aaron Hassan and Jon Marzetti, Ringmer were soon back on the offensive. Jo Tubon had a deflected effort from the edge of the area well saved before he was substituted by the returning Darren Lok and within seconds of his arrival, the Blues had doubled their lead. Joe Dryer found time and space on the edge of the area and smashed home a trademark strike into the roof of the net from twenty yards – a much deserved goal for his performance. The game looked all but over with twenty minutes left as the Blues started to run riot. If it wasn’t for the referee’s ignorance Rangers should have been down to ten men. A blatant kick out at Mark Price was ignored by both the linesman (who was a yard away) and the referee to the disgust of the Blues supporters and some useful dramatisation from Rangers’ number 11 Chris Maynard, saw Pricey booked - the game was starting to get out of hand. Luckily the Blues retained focus and got their third when Darren Lok tapped in at the back post before Mark Price got a fourth when he met a Joe Dryer cross perfectly to slot under the advancing goalkeeper – 4-0 to Ringmer and game over. Yet the boys hadn’t had enough and Dave Altendorf had seemingly made it five with a well placed header but the linesman had seen an infringement. Darren Lok wrapped the game up moments before the end as he latched onto Joe Dryer’s header back across goal to seal an emphatic 5-0 win. For those that saw the game I think you’ll agree the officials left something to be desired, but it is not my place to air my opinion. What I will say though is that the boys put in another superb performance and they are now unbeaten in five. Hopefully it can be backed up by a win at Lingfield on Wednesday night and we can keep climbing the table as the season draws on. Have a good week all, Ben.
