Ringmer1st X1 2 – 0 St Francis Rangers Division One 01/05/10
Ringmer kept another clean sheet against St Francis in a 2-0 return home match, not quite making the five goals from their away game a few weeks ago but again coming away victors. With almost a full compliment of players back on the field the Blues went one up after 8 minutes with a penalty from Mark Price, after Jo Tubon was brought down in the area by the St Francis keeper Simon Lehkyj.
Ringmer continued to push up making many chances, Darren Lok heading just wide from a long throw in, then David Altendorff shooting just over the bar after a cross from Lok out on the right. At the other end ex Ringmer player Josh Hawkes shot just wide of the Blues goal, this was followed by a Rangers free kick which caused a bit of a problem for the Blues as the ball skipped around the area until it was headed towards goal forcing keeper Tom Rand to finger tip over the bar. Ringmer moved well up the right side with Marzetti, Matten, Price and Lok working well together, Altendorff again going wide after another Lok cross then Lok himself headed a Matten free kick wide. The on the half hour Altendorff shot in hard from close range but it was disallowed for offside. On return Rangers came close after a swirling cross had Rand tip over the bar once more, a few minutes later Rangers had two shots on goal with in seconds, the first Rand made an excellent save with his legs and the second went just wide of the post. Ringmer hit back with Joe Dryer and Jo Tubon shooting wide and at the keeper. The half ended with Ringmer going in one up.
Ringmer win a corner in the first minute of the re-start with Dryer crossing and Marzetti rising high to head over the bar. A minute later Ringmer's Dave Soutar shoots into the visitors side netting. Rangers nearly levelled on return as Geoff Pitcher ran on to a ball that was chipped over the Blues defence but his end shot went narrowly over the bar. Then at the other end two Dryer corners come close, Patel going just wide and Price just over. Pitcher then beat the Ringmer defence to half volley the ball over the bar. The on 75 minutes Patel crossed into the visitors area from the right for Price to head in from close range for his and Ringmer's second. Rangers fought on and didn't make things easy for the home side but they found it hard to find away in past a hard working midefield and a resolute home defence, Ringmer had other chances missed as the last quarter was played out but the match ended with a Blues 2-0 win and another well earned three points. |
