Match Team and Report
Wick 1st X1 1 – 1 Ringmer 1st X1 Division One 03/04/10
Wick dominated the first twenty minutes of this match as Ringmer struggled to find their way into the game and to make any impression on the home goal, although a Jo Tubon scamper through the Wick defence to shoot wide in the second minute and a Glen Matten corner which sailed across the home goal mouth a few minutes later got the travelling support excited, Continued pressure by Wick gained them the opening goal from Scott Murfin in the ninth minute after Tom Rand rushed out of the Ringmer goal to gather, unfortunately Murfin got there first and rounded Rand to put the ball into the open net. Another scare for the Blues after Rand made a good one handed punch out to clear but it fell to a Wick player who pumped the ball back high in the air towards goal, the ball held up in the wind and it's steep decent headed straight for the goal, Rand facing the wrong way managed to push it to safety over the bar. Wick kept up the pressure making use of Ringmer's failings and continued to hassle the Blues defence, having many chances go wide or saved by Rand. Then as the half hour approached Ringmer started to get a hold of their game. Darren Lok found his speed useful down the right side and started to put in some decent crosses, Glen Matten working hard to feed Lok on the right with Kieran Mercer Jayson Sowter and John Marzetti gaining control of the back line. Up front things looked more positive with Sam Sowter, Kieran Patel and Jo Tubon coming close. In the last minute of the half a Ringmer cross in from (unidentified) fell to the far post with the Wick keeper dropping the save and the ball nudged over the line. Unfortunately for the Blues the goal was disallowed for an infringement on the keeper. 1-0 to Wick at half time.
The second half started with Ringmer now kicking into the wind with a purpose. A change up front with Joe Dryer coming on for Patel. Sam Sowter had an early chance after winning the ball from a Wick goal kick and ran the ball in but his shot went just wide. Then five minutes later Tubon met a cross from Matten on the right, with a flying header that went just over the home bar. On 60 minutes good play between Mark Price, Tubon and Dryer almost makes the goal but was cleared, 5 minutes later Price received the ball from Lok but again the finish went wide then another shot from Dryer also wide. David Altendorff and Ryan MacMillan were then brought with fresh legs on for Sam Sowter and Tubon.
Wick continue to look dangerous on the break and the long ball on the wind but the Blues defence had seemed to have got the measure of them and dealt with most advances well. Ringmer had by now a better understanding of the rough terrain and were passing a whole lot better. A good ball from Altendorff who did well to get a bicycle kick shot out of Ryan MacMillan which was blocked. More chances from Price, Dryer, Lok, Jayson Sowter and MacMillan but all failed to get the leveller, then in the last minute of the match a free kick was awarded to Ringmer some twenty yards out from the Wick goal, Matten shot over the wall but in the crowded area the ball was knocked over the line for an own goal. A tough knock for Wick but sheer relief for the Blues and many would say probably a fair result at 1-1
