RINGMER 2ND X1 2 – 2 LITTLE COMMON 2ND X1 RESERVE EAST 10 October 09 Report by Steve Frost
Ringmer must wonder what they have to do to win, the first half stats are that Ringmer had 9 good chances on goal to Little Common’s 3, the second half was 10 to 4 yet they came away with only one point and in the end almost none.
The stats speak for themselves with numerous chances falling to Sam Sowter and Craig Olive but none found the net. The nearest thing to a goal for the first 25mins was an appeal by Little Common for a clearance off the Ringmer goal line. Five minutes later, Little Common did score with Ringmer failing to close down allowing Little Common a free shot from outside the 18yd area which beats the outstretched Blues keeper Dan Davies diving to his left (0-1).
Shortly after, on 31mins, Steve Hickman Smith hobbled off with a foot injury passing the captains armband to Matt Little Rob Frost came on up front and Olive went to centre back. Whom settled into the defensive role like a natural whilst Ringmer continued to press for the next ten minutes.
On 43 mins, Little Common conceded a free kick on the left; Louis Munnery curled the ball into the right of the 6yd box for it to be met by Frost who headed the ball down with the bounce beating the keeper (1-1).
At half time the sides went in all square with Ringmer wondering if they were going to rue the lost opportunities.
During the first period, Elliott Finney had required treatment, six mins after the restart Finney was forced to leave the field because of a knee injury, hopefully not too severe however if it is cartilage damage it may require some intervention. Neil Grant comes on and took over the role of right back.
Three mins later Frost crosses from the right for Sowter to feed to Chris Cook who planted the ball to the right of the Little Common keeper (2-1).
More chances fall to Ringmer but none finding the net, then on 75mins, Little Common’s first shot on target this half finds the Ringmer net (2-2)
On 80 mins, Ringmer make their final substitution with Lewis Clarkson on for Little, the captain’s armband now passing to Sowter. 5 mins later, Ringmer lose Olive to injury and play out the rest of the game with 10 men.
Not long after, Little Common put the ball in the Ringmer net only for it to be ruled offside. Ringmer try for the win and have a few near misses right at the death however the final whistle goes at 2-2.
