Match Team and Report

RINGMER 2ND X1 9 – 1 SALTDEAN 2ND X1

RESERVE EAST DIVISION

18/09/09

Report by The Crouchies

Ringmer put in a fine performance against visitors Saltdean Utd, beating them with an outstanding 9-1 scoreline, raising them to third place in the league table behind Peacehaven (1st) & Redhill (2nd) both of these teams winning their respective matches on the night as well.

It was a strange match to report on as as in the first half after the first two goals which caught the supporters and (note maker) napping there were long periods of play without to much incident, in fact the goals came in the first & last five minutes of the half. Ringmer continuing there relentless attacks on the visitors goal with chances coming from Fleming, Little & Sowter.. Saltdean did not seem to have a reply and were breaking out only on a long clearance or goal kicks. These breaks by the visitors were dealt with though by a good defence line of Finney, Stonell Brown & Hickman Smith. They did however breach this barrier with their best chance of the half only to see their power shot hit the crossbar to be cleared, ten minutes later they won two corners in secession the first causing a bit of a scrap in front of the Ringmer goal but the ball was eventually cleared the second corner was cleared straight away.

The first and second Ringmer goals came early on and as I said earlier most of us missed the first, only four minutes in and Chris Cook taps in after a corner and a bit of a scramble in the goal mouth, two minutes later Sam Sowter gains another to make it 2-0 in the first ten. It wasn't until the last five minutes of normal time that Ringmer struck again, this time Moore got his eye in and hit the target for number 3, then a couple of minutes later a good run by Moore on the right saw him bag a second as he lofted a shot over the oncoming keeper who did get his hands to it but the ball dropped behind into the corner of the net. Ringmer then scored again two minutes later with a pinpoint cross from Sowter on the left finding Little in front of goal who knocked in the fifth, minutes later Sowter almost made it six after he shot on the turn and just went wide.

Saltdean made a good last effort just before the break, after working up the right a low shot penetrated the defence and Skates the Blues keeper, got down to it but the ball rebounded out, kicked in again but blocked another shot in but again the ball was blocked on the line, eventually it was cleared much to the frustration of Saltdean. 5-0 at the break.

The second half started but this time it was not the supporters that weren't paying attention, from the off Saltdean went down the left and a great shot in found it's target and pull one back (5-1) Ringmer reply with Little bursting through the defenders, his shot blocked and cleared but only to Cook who has a shot but it is saved by the keeper. Robbie Frost comes on for Little and is straight into the action, after a good run in attempts to chip the keeper but who this time saves.

On twenty five minutes Ringmer were awarded a rather soft penalty after Moore was adjudged to have been brought down in the penalty area, Moore scored from this and Ringmer went six one up. A few minutes later and Frost makes another good run up the left side, he gets a good cross in which finds Sowter who bangs it home for number seven (7-1) Frost found the net moments later himself as a result of a corner which eventually found him by the far post and he knocked the ball home from close range (8-1) The last of the nine goals was another Frost/Sowter combo, again with Frost running up the left and crossing to a waiting Sowter to plant it in the net.

All in all a great performance and result for The Blues and all credit due to Saltdean for playing until the end in what must have seemed a very long match.
