DEAL TOWN 4 – 1 RINGMER

FA CUP PRELIMINARY

29/08/09

Report by David Ruffles

Ringmer turned in a horror show at Deal in this FA Cup tie. On a bone hard pitch and playing down the slope and with the strong wind in their backs the home side were unstoppable in the first half. The Blues were second best in every department and by half time they went in with a four goal deficit but in truth it could have been six or seven. Only two fine saves by McFadden and two last ditch blocks by Ryan MacMillan kept the score line down with Scott Holden the unlucky striker on each occasion. Once the home side had taken the lead after ten minutes through Mo Takaloo, the goals came at regular intervals with Jake Eastwood, Danny Smith and Jason Brazier completing the rout. Ringmer seemed incapable of stringy three passes together against a very strong and physical side but they still managed to force keeper Paul Rogers to make three superb saves to deny Jo Jo Tubon, David Altendorf and Matt Percival.

The half time turnaround saw Ringmer now assisted by the slope and the wind while the introduction of Joe Dryer and Kieran Patel into the action injected life into the Blues. Indeed apart from an early effort from Jack Collins turned aside by McFadden the home side never seriously looked like adding to their goal tally. Tubon was unlucky to be denied a goal by the crossbar before he side-footed a cross from Dryer into the net to pull a goal back for the Blues. From then on Ringmer dominated proceedings with Dryer having three goal-bound efforts saved by Rogers but in the end their dreams of a decent FA Cup run to improve the club’s finances are over for another season.

By a strange twist the Blues get an early chance to gain their revenge this Saturday as Deal visit the Caburn in the FA Vase, a competition which they won in 2000.
