Egham Town 2 – 2 Ringmer

FA CUP Extra Preliminary

15/08/09

Report by David Ruffles

If the first three games of the season are indication of things to come no one will be leaving Ringmer’s games before the final whistle has blown. For the third match in a row the score line on Saturday changed in dying moments.

From the start of this FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round tie Ringmer peppered the Egham goalmouth with crosses and shots but failed to breach a packed defence. However the first clear-cut chance of the game came after fifteen minutes at the other end with Charlie Muldowney breached the offside trap and forcing Sean McFadden to make a fine save with assistance from Jon Marzetti who hacked the ball away for a corner. The occasional irregular bounce of the ball spoilt a number of promising moves by either side but somewhat out of the blue the home side took the lead with half time drawing near. A weak headed clearance following a free kick just outside the Blues penalty area saw the ball drop for Kian Siabi whose first time chip sailed into the net.

Ringmer began the second half driving forward for an equaliser. Joe Dryer forced Town’s goalkeeper into a flying save to tip the ball over the cross bar before Marzetti and Darren Lok combined to set David Altendorf free to slide the ball passed the keeper to level the scores. This heralded a spell of play which suggested Ringmer were going to go on and win the game with chances for Lok, Altendorf and Kieran Patel. But by pressing forward the Blues left themselves vulnerable to the odd breakaway and with fifteen minutes left to play Muldowney put the home side in front when McFadden failed to keep out his close range header. Ringmer hit back strongly and when Town’s goalkeeper spilled a shot from Lok in the third minute of stoppage time Altendorf was on hand to blast the ball home to force a replay.
