Match Team and Report
Ringmer U18 v Crowborough U18 on Thursday 24/09/09

CROWBOROUGH U18 6 - 1 RINGMER U18

YOUTH EAST DIVISION

24/09/09

Report by Brian Henderson

After losing their 100% record last Sunday against Eastbourne Borough the top team, the U18’s had to travel, on a Thursday evening, all the way to Crowborough to play the team in second position.

There were a couple of changes made to the team selection and the players were confident that they could reverse last Sundays result. On a perfect evening play commenced at 19:45 and Ringmer took early control which led to the first goal of the game on 7 minutes. The ball was played down our right side to Jordan Allen and he sprinted past the full back and delivered a great cross that was met by Charlie Miles who scored with a low drive. At this stage of the game Ringmer were in control but Crowborough then started to assert more pressure.

On 22 minutes Jake Allen had to be substituted because of injury with Todd Hammond replacing him. An equalizing goal looked inevitable despite several good saves from Phil Mcdonald in goal and on 33 minutes Chris Bates gave away a silly penalty. This was duly converted and this only spurred Crowborough on.

On 40 minutes another penalty was given away by Kris Lambert. This too was converted but despite Phil in goal getting a hand to it he was beaten by sheer power. Score at half time 2-1 down.

The team was left in no doubt that their performance was much below par and went out to overcome their opponents in the second half. However after a period of better play by Ringmer it was Crowborough who scored their third goal, a little against the run of play.

Ringmer’s play deteriorated further. Phil in goal was still making very good saves but Crowborough continued to score at regular intervals and despite two further substitutions where Joe Seymour replaced Kris Lambert and Gavin Lanius replaced Chris Bates Ringmer could not prevent the score reaching 6-1 by the game end.

The team must now pick themselves up for the away match on Sunday against Hastings.

The man of the match was Phil Mcdonald in goal despite the score because without his many excellent saves the score would and should have been a lot more. Even the Crowborough Manager was singing his praises.
