Match Team and Report
EASTBOURNE BOROUGH U18 6 - 0 RINGMER U18 SCYL EAST DIVISION 13/12/09 Report by Brian Henderson
Ringmer travelled the short distance to Eastbourne to play Borough on the hallowed turf at Priory Lane on Sunday in the East Division.
The team for this game was a strong one although again we were without the teams leading goal scorer, who was working. Borough are a very good team and like to play the ball around so the strategy was to deny them space and impose ourselves on them. The opening stage was fairly evenly contested although Borough were playing the more controlled football.
They hit a post on 10 minutes and scored their first goal on 12 minutes. The game then developed into Borough attacking and Ringmer defending with very little penetration into the Eastbourne 18 yard area. Their second goal, on 38 minutes, was rather fortuitous because Phil in goal had the shot covered until the ball took a deflection of a defenders heel to change the flight and go into the net. A third goal followed a couple of minutes later by way of a header. There were no further goals so the half time score was 3-0 to Eastbourne.
The half time team talk was, to put it mildly, a heated affair with heart felt opinions being expressed. Kevin stated that the team was not competing enough and that we were giving Eastbourne too much space in which to play. The tension was broken when Brian managed to embarrass himself by falling onto the floor twice while providing medical attention.
The second half saw a substitution when Chris Bates had to replaced by N Gershek because of a knee problem on 50 minutes and S Hammond replaced Kris Lambert 4 minutes later. Ben Courtnage had a shot on 54 minutes and Lewis Finney a shot 7 minutes later. Ringmer were at least competing now and our cause was not helped when Taylor Briggs was fouled in the penalty area but no penalty was given by the referee. Even the Borough manager said that it was a stone wall penalty. Ben was then cautioned because he protested too much. Salt was then rubbed into our wounds when Jake Allen gave away a penalty on 60 minutes but the penalty was missed. Joe Seymour replaced Jake on 65 minutes and Ben had another shot on 70 minutes but Borough scored their 4th goal a minute later, a fifth on 75 minutes and a sixth on 85 minutes. Phil in goal again made crucial saves. Borough deserved to win this match but Ringmer gave them too much respect and allowed them to dictate the game. They were expecting a far tougher game with us. |
