Match Team and Report
Ringmer verses Eastbourne Town on Sunday 14/03/10

EASTBOURNE TOWN U18 5 – 0 RINGMER U18

SCFY East Division

14/03/10

Report by Brian Henderson

We travelled down to the Saffrons on Sunday to play Eastbourne Town but the omens were not good. A couple of our players were unavailable because of work and a couple more just failed to show up so we started the match with a bare 11 players but James Kite had to leave at half time for work.

The situation got worse because the appointed Referee failed to show up and although a qualified replacement was found the kick off was delayed by 25 minutes. This resulted in James leaving on the 30 minute mark meaning the team played for an hour with just 10 players.

The opening few minutes were even, with L Brown providing L Finney with a good ball and the resulting shot was well saved by the keeper. However Eastbourne scored their first goal on 5 minutes and their second on 10 minutes. Still Ringmer were playing decent football and L Finney sent a great cross over which was just missed by the incoming forward. On 22 minutes a shot from Jake Allen followed good approach play and L Finney had another good shot saved shortly afterward. Just before half time Eastbourne scored their third goal and this was the half time score.

The half time talk was about continuing to play as we had but to try and use the flanks more and to maintain the effort and commitment from everyone.

We started well and after 5 minutes C Bates headed on a goal kick for L Finney to shoot but the shot went wide. A couple of minutes later C Bates had a great shot saved by their keeper and from the resulting corner C Bates shot wide. Another shot from Jake was well saved by their keeper and then rather against play Eastbourne scored a 4th goal following a couple of mistakes by the defense. Still we went forward and another shot from L Finney, following good approach play from C Bates, was well saved.

However our 10 players were tiring and Eastbourne brought on their substitutes and pressed forward and two players bore down on Phil in our goal but he managed to save their effort. Then a couple of minutes later they scored their 5 th goal and this was the final score. The Eastbourne manager congratulated our team for the manner of our play and the Referee also stated that it had been a pleasure to referee two teams who had wanted to play football. There was not a single caution in the game. The referee was very good and consistent and was a positive factor in the game.

Kevin and I would like to thank all of the players who turned up for this match and congratulate everyone for their efforts and the manner in which they represented Ringmer FC. You are all a credit to the club.
