Match Team and Report
RINGMER U18 2 – 1 EASTBOURNE UA U18 Sussex County Youth East Division 04/10/09 Report by Brian Henderson
Ringmer entertained Eastbourne United today hoping to end the losing run of three matches. The team was changed with Philip McDonald recalled as the goal keeper and Todd Hammond at right back with Taylor Briggs in midfield. The match kicked off at 11 o’clock and Ringmer took early control and could have been 2 goals ahead in the first 5 minutes. One attempt rebounded off the post, with their keeper beaten and another effort went just wide. It seemed only a matter of time before the opening goal was scored but despite many attempts, some being saved, others just not being on target, the goal did not happen. Indeed it was Eastbourne who scored the opening goal on 22 minutes. In a rare attack the ball was crossed and Phil should have just caught it but he managed to drop it and a grateful forward knocked the ball into the goal. The team was stunned and Eastbourne started to create a few more chances but Ringmer then again took control but failed to score before half time.
The half time team talk identified that while the team was playing well we were not converting our chances. A double substitution was made with Luke Duchossoy and Ben Courtnage replacing Jordan Allen and Mark Kite. The second half followed the same pattern with a couple of more chances going begging. It seemed as though it was going to be one of those days. Then on 53 minutes the ball was played forward to Duchossoy who controlled the ball and laid it off to Kris Lambert who hit a perfect shot past the keeper from the edge of the penalty area. Game on. Ringmer went looking for the important second and put more pressure on the Eastbourne defense and this was rewarded in the 73rd minute. Again good work from Duchossoy, resulted in Charlie Miles receiving the ball and another excellent low shot hit the back of the net. However having got the lead Ringmer now eased off and allowed Eastbourne back into the game. They created several good chances and Phil in goal redeemed himself with two excellent saves. There was one further substitution with Jake Allen replacing a tiring Louis Finney. The game could have gone either way but the score remained at 2-1. The losing sequence was ended with the man of the match being Chris Bates. A thank you to Gavin Lanius for running our line.
