RINGMER U18 VERSES HASTINGS U18 SUNDAY 27/09/09

HASTINGS U18 2 – 1 RINGMER U18

YOUTH EAST

27/09/09

Report by Brian Henderson

Ringmer had to travel down to Hastings to play their U18 side on Sunday and avoid a third consecutive defeat.

The team was changed because of injuries and absent players while Tom Marchant was given a full league debut in goal. From the kick off Hastings took control of the game and soon were creating chances which resulted in several good saves by Marchant. However the pressure continued and on 12 minutes Hastings scored. Ringmer could not respond and all the play was in the Ringmer half with several more saves from our keeper. Then on 28 minutes Marchant gave away a penalty which was duly dispatched by Hastings. There were no further goals so at half time Hastings led 2-0.

Team Manager Kevin Allen, roused the team at half time and they responded very positively and took control of the game. Jake Allen was substituted by Ryan Tucker on 55 minutes because of injury. Three minutes later Ringmer scored after James Kite took a short corner to Charlie Miles who sent over a perfect cross which was met by Chris Bates to head past the flailing keeper, a great team goal.

Ringmer were now playing the short passing game that they do well and several more chances were created. Gavin Lanius replaced Louis Finney on the 70 minute mark as an additional striker and Philip McDonald, a goal keeper, was sent on late in the game to try and score the equalizer. Despite a lot of pressure and a couple of further chances Hastings held out to win 2-1.

The performance in the second half was very much improved and although the team suffered their third defeat in a row there was much to build on for the home game on Sunday against Eastbourne United.
