Match Team and Report
RYE UNITED U18 1 – 3 Ringmer U18 SCYL DIVISION EAST 08/11/09 Report by Brian Henderson
The team travelled to the far reaches of East Sussex in atrocious weather conditions to play Rye in their U18 match after a week off last Sunday because of the rain.
As is usual now there were the obligatory changes for various reasons with Jake Allen resuming at right back and Ben Courtnage and Chris Bates as the two strikers. We had only one fit substitute, Scott McQueen.
This was remembrance Sunday so the two teams respectfully observed the minutes silence at 11 o’clock before kick off. Ringmer soon settled into their stride and on a good surface were playing their usual short passing game and creating chances. However as is now the pattern these chances were squandered repeatedly although the Rye goal keeper was also making some very good saves.
On 18 minutes Tom cleared the ball out which hit Louis Brown and rebounded to a Rye player who scored the opening goal. This was totally against the run of play and did rock Ringmer’s confidence, however 3 minutes later Ringmer were level. Following good play through midfield Chris Miles hit a shot that rebounded off the bar and fell to Ryan Tucker who confidently struck the ball into the back of the net. Ringmer were again in control and still creating and missing chances but were rewarded with another goal on 40 minutes. Ben Courtnage made a great run down our right flank and sent over a very good cross that was met by Jordan Lee who shot home.
This was the score at half time but manager Kevin Allen was not satisfied with the overall performance because too many chances were being missed and at times we were not competing fully.
The half time talk worked because within 2 minutes we scored the third goal. Again Ben Courtnage went on a run down the flank and this time hit a shot from an acute angle to score.
The game was effectively over when the referee sent two Rye players off in the later stages of the second half and while Rye continued to battle the contest dwindled. Scott Mc Queen came on for Chris Bates for his first game of the season with 12 minutes of the game left.
Overall another win and three points but the goal scoring opportunities have got to be taken more readily. Still at least we had an enjoyable stop at the Bexhill KFC. |
