Match Team and Report
Ringmer U18 verses Seaford in Sunday 11th April 10

Seaford U18 3 – 3 Ringmer U18

SCFY East Division

11th April 10

Report by Brian Henderson

This was the return fixture the club had been waiting for so that the team could improve on the 1-1 draw for our home fixture. As is usual there were team changes caused by absences although the defence was the usual one and James Kite returned to mid field and Gavin Lanius partnered Ben Courtnage up front with our only sub being Kieron Ridley.

The Seaford pitch was very hard and uneven and a strong easterly wind would have an effect on the game. Ringmer played with the wind first half and generally dominated play and gained a corner after 5 minutes. The corner was well delivered but there was no player to connect with it but 30 seconds later Gavin tried a clever chip that just went over the crossbar. Play continued in the Seaford half and good work by Gavin allowed him to control the ball and get a shot away that was well saved by the keeper. Seaford did attack on 18 minutes causing Phil to make a good save. Then on the half hour mark Phil took a goal kick which was headed on twice to Joe Seymour who shot wide. Then a minute later Taylor Briggs put a great ball through to Ben Courtnage who after controlling the ball scored. A couple of minutes later Seaford gave away a free kick on their left side and Louis Brown curled the ball towards the far post and it was goal bound but to make sure their defender helped it in. After a discussion at half time the goal was awarded to Louis. Seaford were stung a bit by this goal and scored themselves only two minutes later following good play through the centre of our defence. We had two further chances before half time both falling to Ben Courtnage one shot going wide and the other saved by their keeper. The score at half time was therefore 2-1 to Ringmer.

The team talk was to consolidate our position and to see how Seaford were going to play now they had the wind with them. This is where the conditions helped Seaford who pressed forward relentlessly causing Phil to save on 50 minutes although he did spill the ball but the forward missed the chance. A minute later Seaford had a corner and their forward jumped unchallenged to head home the equalizer. Kieron replaced Joe on 61 minutes. Seaford were dominating with all the play in the Ringmer half with Phil having to make a further save on 69 minutes. A third goal was scored for Seaford on 80 minutes with a long ball over the top being lobbed over Phil who had to make further saves in the following minutes. It looked like a defeat until deep in injury time Ringmer were awarded a free kick on our right side. Ben Courtnage sent the cross over resulting in a goal mouth scramble during which Ben Gardiner managed to stab the ball home for an equalizer. There was only time for the restart to take place before the referee whistled for the end of the match.
