RESTRUCTURE THE STEP 5 LEAGUES?

Much talk of the FA's intention to restructure step 5 in the national league system has been going around the Sussex footballing fraternity for a few weeks now as to what impact this will have on Sussex Football, In short it will have a devastating effect on our County football leagues and our football clubs. This could end up with many clubs folding or playing at a lower level of football due to the enormous cost involved of the proposed changes.

The basics points to the Re-structure would mean that the current Sussex County Division One level will be broken up into three different leagues thus taking away any involvement from the SCFL. We at Ringmer along with the clubs of Peacehaven & Telscombe, AFC Uckfield, Sidley United, and Rye United amongst others will be placed in the LONDON SOUTH EAST LEAGUE which is predominantly the KENT League at the moment and would mean almost a doubling of our travelling mileage, covering from South Surrey (Epsom) too East Kent (Deal).

Others in our SCFL division will have to travel to Hampshire and beyond, while a few will be scattered to the Surrey end. However you look at it 95 years of the SCL football will be wiped out. They have worked hard over that time and now have a step 5 level that works very well, why throw that all away on a whim.

There are a lot of discussions going on in our County at the moment about this, lets let the FA know as well what we think about it.

We at Ringmer have drawn up a letter which has been sent to those concerned at the FA about this matter which you can view here.

We have also contacted our MP Mr Norman Baker on this matter.

There are 20 Division One Clubs affected by this change and all are against this re-organization by the FA.
